‘…I should stop staring.’

Biting the inside of his cheek, Ryan turned his head to look elsewhere, but he was still listening to the conversation between the two.

After a while, Ryan realized that all his focus was still on Cielo. He let out an empty breath and rubbed his face with both hands.

There’s a saying that falling in love happens in an instant.

It settles deep in your heart before you even notice it, coils itself up inside you, and drives you mad.

That’s not wrong at all.

If he found himself envious of Oscar, simply for sitting beside Cielo and chatting away with him…

“…I’ve lost it.”

He really hadn’t expected to fall this hard.

No doubt about it, he had fallen completely and utterly.

The entire time they were at the clinic, Ryan kept nagging Cielo nonstop.

“That’s all you’re eating? Even a newborn would eat more than that.”

He complained about the small portions of food. Whenever Cielo moved to help around the clinic, Ryan would rush over and force him back into bed.

“A patient shouldn’t be looking after other patients.”

Even past midnight, when Cielo hadn’t gone to sleep, Ryan would snatch away the book he was secretly reading and scold him.

“Here. Warm milk. Drink and sleep.”

“…Do you think I’m a child?”

“Even if you’re not, you still have to try everything if you can’t sleep. And if you haven’t had your coming-of-age ceremony yet, technically you are a child, aren’t you?”

Ryan laughed and patted his head. His touch seemed rough but didn’t mess up Cielo’s hair at all.

“…It’s less than five days away.”

“Then be a kid until then. If you can’t sleep, I’ll warm you milk every time.”

Anyone listening would think they had a huge age gap, when in fact they were only two years apart.

When Cielo pouted with a sulky face, Ryan chuckled.

In the past, no matter what was said to him, Cielo’s face wouldn’t change. Now, with all these expressive reactions, everything he did looked adorable to Ryan.

“You look like a duck.”

“…Seriously? You don’t even treat me like a person anymore. Fine, I’m a duck. Quack quack.”

As Cielo responded bluntly, Ryan asked in a cautious voice:

“Wait… are you still upset because I took that book away earlier?”

“…”

When Ryan gasped and covered his mouth in shock, Cielo, with a sullen face, turned his head away and gulped down the milk.

“Why are you acting so cute, Cielo?”

“…Pfft!”

Was he serious?

Cielo looked up at Ryan with a stunned face.

But Ryan just laughed, as if he couldn’t help himself, like someone who had air stuck in his lungs.

“You’re spilling it everywhere. You really are a kid.”

Ryan pulled a handkerchief from his chest and wiped the corners of Cielo’s mouth.

Still wearing a dazed expression, not fully understanding the situation, Cielo suddenly came to his senses and shouted:

“Hey, if you hadn’t said something so weird…!”

“Weird? What’s weird? Saying you’re cute? I only told the truth. What, are you embarrassed?”

As if he had never heard such a thing before in his life, Cielo’s ears turned bright red.

Trying to hold back his embarrassment, he clenched his fists tightly, which only made him look even cuter to Ryan, who burst out laughing again.

“…Go away. I’m going to sleep now.”

“Already? But you said you couldn’t sleep. I’ll stay with you.”

“I said I’m going to sleep, so go away!”

In the end, Cielo pulled the blanket over his head completely.

‘He’s so weird, seriously…’

His face was burning hot. How could someone say things like that with a straight face?

Is he a flirt or something?

No doubt about it.

He must be a flirt.

While thinking such useless thoughts and pressing a cold hand to his flushed cheek, Ryan sat down beside the blanket-covered Cielo.

He gently stroked the top of the blanket where Cielo’s head was and quietly called his name.

“Cielo.”

“…What?”

“Did you find a partner to attend your coming-of-age ceremony with?”

He expected another teasing comment, but the words that followed were completely different.

Cielo pulled the blanket down slightly and looked at Ryan, as if silently asking what he meant.

“I got an invitation yesterday. I’m guessing the Duke of Esteban sent it on his own.”

“…”

“If I’m allowed to attend your coming-of-age ceremony, I was thinking I’d even like to be your partner for it.”

“Can I come with you?”

Ryan looked into Cielo’s eyes and smiled gently.

Cielo didn’t say a word.

His heart thumped hard in his chest, and all he could do was slowly nod in response.
