The extra, too, has no need for obsession

As far as I can remember, Isadore, the second prince, wasn’t a scheming or sinister person, even if he did have his own agenda.

But the Crown Prince was the complete opposite.

He approached Hyacine, who had lost his older sister and was left alone, under the pretense of revenge. And Hyacine, having lost his only family, ended up taking that hand.

‘This time, I have to make sure Hyacine goes through his awakening step by step so that he doesn’t catch the Crown Prince’s eye.’

Hyacine, having lost his only guardian, is exactly the kind of target that those in power would want to bring to their side.

This time, I have to change that outcome.

‘If I die, Hyacine will just be used by someone else’s thirst for revenge all over again. For my baby brother’s sake, I can’t die like this.’

I don’t want my little brother to meet such a horrible end.

Of course, to prevent that, it would probably be best to go to Brondearn as recommended by Prince Isadore for now.

‘But the best option is for him to come with me to the military academy.’

That way, I’ll be able to handle anything that happens.

The rest can be prepared for gradually.

‘Above all, I’m uneasy about leaving Hyacine behind while Blair and the other Brondearns are around. They might not treat him well while I’m not around.’

Still, I have to help him undergo his first awakening before he submits his admission documents…

‘Judging by the anomalous reaction, it doesn’t seem like it’ll take long.’

If something triggers it, or if he learns how to handle mana, he’ll probably awaken.

‘Should I try to have him exposed to mana more regularly, on purpose?’

But I’m a Guide who doesn’t have even a speck of mana myself.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there are no options.

There are pills called Nexium that are made by extracting and refining mana from a Transcendent’s blood.

A Guide can only stabilize a Transcendent’s mana and can’t actually possess mana, but if they take Nexium, they can temporarily handle refined mana in pill form.

The pill I took at the Count Lorraine’s house was exactly that.

‘But I can’t just take it again without permission. If I do, I’ll really end up in the Management Bureau’s jail this time.’

I kept coming up with and discarding different ideas.

What about borrowing another Transcendent’s power?

‘For example, Acteon…’

The reason Brondearn’s children awaken so quickly is, in fact, pretty simple.

‘Of course, it’s unusual that all the Transcendents born there are of such a high level, but still.’

Mana reacts to mana.

When a high-level Transcendent’s mana stimulates the mana dormant in a candidate, they experience their first awakening earlier than others and become a Manifester.

That’s the real reason Brondearn’s children awaken so much earlier than everyone else.

‘With so many high-level Transcendents in the family, Hyacine will probably be heavily influenced as well.’

If Hyacine reacts to Acteon or any of the others who’ve already undergone their first awakening, he might awaken quickly too.

‘And if not, I’ll just have to make it happen.’

I glanced worriedly at Hyacine, then shot a sidelong look at Blair, who was still ignoring me, before turning my gaze back out the window.

From the looks of that massive, castle-like mansion, it seemed we were almost there.

‘No doubt about it… A house that slaps its notorious name on the front gate.’

The mansions in the central district all boasted enormous grounds and opulent houses.

But even among them, this one was overwhelmingly large.

A garden that seemed to take up an entire district, and a mansion so huge it was almost unbelievable.

And its appearance was beautiful enough to rival the royal palace.

There was no way to guess how much money had been poured into it.

“We’ve arrived.”

As expected, Blair notified us that this was where we would be staying. His voice was dry, even cold.

The carriage passed through elaborately crafted, gleaming iron gates.

That must have been the main entrance.

As we continued inside, the view opened up to reveal a splendid garden.

At any other time, I might have simply been moved by how beautiful it was.

But after surviving at the Estra Military Academy, all I could feel was tension.

If I stepped on the wrong flower, a year’s salary could vanish, so I decided not to go near them.

Hyacine, on the other hand, couldn’t hide his amazement.

It was both endearing and a little sad.

If we ever manage to escape this country safely, maybe we could have a flower bed in front of our house.

But that peace didn’t last long.

As soon as we got out of the carriage, the one who greeted us was…

“Hello, I’m Liliope Ortis. This is my younger brother.”

As his guardian, I greeted them first.

When I looked up, there was a young man who appeared to be about the same age as Hyacine.

Jet-black hair that seemed not to reflect any light at all.

Icy gray eyes tinged with pale silver.

Even though he was the same age as Hyacine, he was already a head taller than me.

Despite not yet having entered the military academy, the way he moved and his build were even more soldierly than mine.

And.

‘Even more than I imagined…’

He was handsome enough to make me lower my guard for a moment.

Even though I could tell that the slight curve to his eyes was just a formal smile, his looks were overwhelming.

Is this what they call the male lead’s ‘mandatory overwhelming beauty’?

Even though he’d only just come of age, his build and height made him even more imposing than most adults.

Acteon Brondearn.

The man who came out to greet us was the male lead of this story.

The one who would soon take my life with his own hands.
