If the House of Luc were to step forward and offer their help, not only would issues regarding inheritance be resolved, but business matters would also proceed smoothly. It was certain that they would become a strong supporter for Dylan, who had not been involved in high society for such a long time.

Mia wanted Dylan’s life to be peaceful even after she left, but now that this situation had come, she couldn’t bring herself to respond positively.

“I don’t quite understand why you’re trying to get so involved, Marquis Luc.”

The marquis before her was a deeply responsible man. She knew well that his words were not out of self-interest, but rather from genuine concern for her and Dylan.

He was offering help, and she should have been glad and relieved. But for some reason, she didn’t feel good about it.

“My daughter caused trouble, so it’s my way of repaying that debt. And also… I just hope His Grace can finally live a somewhat peaceful life. Call it unnecessary meddling.”

Marquis Luc added this gently, seeing that Mia did not reply, her smile faint.

“And don’t worry, I’m not saying all this as a way of proposing something unreasonable, like taking my daughter as a secondary wife.”

His long red hair swayed from side to side.

Mia looked at his hair, sparkling in the sunlight, and gave a gentle smile as she replied.

“Of course, I wouldn’t misunderstand. It’s reassuring to know you’re standing so firmly behind Dylan.”

“Thank you for seeing it that way.”

“I’ll talk to Dylan about it again myself.”

Hearing her answer, the marquis looked visibly relieved. Just as when they first met, he bowed with a gentle smile.

“Now that you’ve said so, I feel at ease. Well then, I’ll take my leave. I hope you have a peaceful day, Madam.”

With those words, the marquis left.

Amidst the bustle of the main building, Mia stood in place alone. For a while, she simply stood there, bathed in sunlight streaming through the window.

Only after some time had passed did Mia finally lift her heavy feet and move.

“Dylan, are you busy?”

Mia called out softly as she carefully opened the door.

“I knocked several times, but you didn’t answer.”

The frown on Dylan’s face, behind his glasses, softened for a moment. He looked almost as if he was seeing someone he hadn’t expected.

“May I come in?”

With the strong sunlight streaming in behind him, his expression was unreadable in the backlight.

“Please do.”

Mia stepped lightly into the room, walking up to him. As she drew near, a fresh, forest-like scent lingered around Dylan. Though the study was filled with the smell of paper, when she was close to Dylan, that was the only scent she noticed.

While Mia was lost in this brief thought, Dylan’s gaze swept over her. Then, he lowered his eyes back to the documents.

“You seem very busy.”

“It’s nothing much.”

Seeing the piles of papers on his desk, Mia knew it was just empty words, but she didn’t point it out. It would be better to get straight to the point and leave quickly for Dylan’s sake.

“I heard you took my work.”

“If that’s what you came for, don’t worry about it.”

“If you did it as some kind of repayment for having given in to your demands, you don’t need to.”

His rapidly moving hands gradually slowed. Then, he slowly raised his head and met Mia’s eyes.

Under his steady gaze, Mia felt her neck heat up. Ignoring the sensation, she gathered her documents and continued speaking.

“And on my way here, I ran into the guests who’d visited. They were talking about the house’s status on inheritance.”

Dylan’s voice came out somewhat stiffly.

“That discussion is already over.”

The atmosphere grew heavier than when she had first entered his office.

After a brief hesitation, Mia spoke again.

“I know it’s a little strange for me to bring this up, since I’ll be leaving in a year… but how about talking a bit more deeply with Marquis Luc?”

Dylan coolly replied with a question.

“If I had power, would it make you want to stay here longer?”

It was a question Mia had not expected at all.
