Wrong Genre! - Chapter 1.2
He spent the entire day screaming and denying reality, but in the end, he had no choice but to accept it.
“Young Master….”
Rueg’s personal butler, Schumann, stood there, his face full of worry, holding a uniform in one hand and a letter that had arrived at the Count’s residence in the other.
“…What’s that?”
“It’s an IOU. It seems the young lady stopped by the salon before leaving the capital. There are also several other IOUs that have arrived from elsewhere.”
……Gulp.
Rueg swallowed dryly and took the papers from the butler, glancing over them.
[Adams Salon: 132 gold.]
[Ollita Stables: 74 gold.]
The moment he read just those two, Rueg felt his face flush with heat.
“O-One… two hundred gold……?”
“There’s more on the back.”
“We don’t even have enough to pay the servants’ wages, so what on earth is all this money being spent on!”
Clutching his own hair in frustration, Rueg yelled toward Versha, who couldn’t possibly hear him. He even had the illusion that, somewhere far away, Versha was hiding her mouth behind a fan, cackling.
With slumped shoulders, Rueg finally swallowed his tears and slid his arms into the uniform.
Though they were twins of different genders, their builds were so similar that Versha’s clothes fit Rueg perfectly as well.
‘At least it’s not a dress…’
If the aide’s uniform had differed depending on gender, it would have been a real disaster.
“Young Master.”
“……Hm?”
“Please endure for just three months.”
At Schumann’s voice, filled with steely resolve, Rueg looked at him in confusion. But the butler only said something strange.
“I’ll prepare for your escape.”
“Schumann, you’re not starting to resemble my sister, are you?”
To that, the butler quietly pressed his lips together.
With a sigh, Rueg tidied up his clothes and, unable to hide his exhaustion, got into the carriage.
Originally, an aide was supposed to reside in the Imperial Palace and serve their superior there, but Versha had never behaved that way.
The first reason was that she didn’t like the beds provided for palace workers.
The second was that she didn’t want to see her workplace the moment she opened her eyes in the morning.
And the biggest reason of all…
“I have to go on a date!”
Damn it, it was to go on dates with the man Rueg had introduced to her.
“I’d rather die than suffer like this, I’d rather die……”
Yeah, let’s look on the bright side.
Compared to confessing to the Crown Prince, obsessing over him, tormenting the female lead, and finally facing a horrific downfall like in the original story, this was much better.
“We’ve arrived.”
Awakened from his thoughts by the coachman’s voice, Rueg got off the carriage.
The moment he saw the grand Imperial Palace, Rueg was overwhelmed by the urge to go back home, completely forgetting the resolve he’d made in the carriage.
But knowing he couldn’t, he cried inside, took a deep breath, and forced himself to move forward.
But then, a strange feeling washed over him.
“What is this? Why does it feel like I’ve been here before……?”
Blinking at the long corridor, Rueg was bewildered. He’d never been to the palace before, but for some reason, the path felt familiar.
“If I go this way, it’s the library… That way is the bedroom, and this here is the office……”
What in the world was going on?
As he stood there blinking in a daze, Rueg clapped his hands.
‘Ah! It must be a transmigrator perk!’
Right, if they were going to dump someone into a novel so bad it couldn’t even get published, this much of a perk was only fair!
Thinking that, Rueg cleared his throat.
“Your Highness the Crown Prince. Verdic reporting.”
Rueg raised his voice just a little, trying his best. After all, even though they were twins with similar looks and builds, their voices were distinctly different.
“……Your Highness?”
But there was no answer.
‘Is he not inside yet?’
Or maybe his voice wasn’t loud enough to be heard.
Just in case, Rueg knocked on the office door, but again, there was no reply.
“W-What’s going on?”
Officially, working hours began at 9 a.m., and Felix was always said to arrive at the office by 8 a.m.
“……Y-Your, your Highness the Crown Prince?”
Rueg raised his voice and called out to him once more.
But still, there was no response.
Could it be that something happened inside?
What if Versha, unable to contain her grudge against the Crown Prince she called ‘that dog’, had come back and done something to him before leaving……!
As the worst-case scenario flashed through his mind, Rueg hurriedly grabbed the doorknob.
“I-I’m coming in!”
And at that very moment, Rueg opened the door.
