The black hair, bathed in the light pouring through the window, shone brilliantly.

The moment Rueg’s gaze met the red eyes that blinked slowly, he unconsciously held his breath.

‘W-What kind of person…’

A beauty so striking, it was hard to believe they were even the same species.

Nearly 190 centimeters tall, with broad shoulders. The thick muscles and prominent veins visible beneath his rolled-up sleeves made him stand out all the more.

‘How can someone be that handsome?’

No wonder Versha fell for Felix.

Even as a fellow man, his beautiful face and sturdy body were mesmerizing enough to make Rueg lose his wits. On top of that, the faint scent wafting from him was enough to put one at ease.

While Rueg stared at Felix, completely spellbound without even realizing it—

“Who told you to be late?”

“…Y-Yes?”

At that cold voice, Rueg snapped back to his senses and looked at the clock inside the office.

“Ah, I’m not late though…?”

When he pointed at the clock and answered, Felix furrowed his elegant brows and spoke quietly.

“I told you that from today on, you’re to come an hour early to wake me up.”

“……?”

“Didn’t we agree on that after you lost the bet yesterday?”

At Felix’s words, Rueg swallowed his shock.

‘…Versha Verdic!’

If something that important was decided, you should have written it in your letter!

“You haven’t forgotten the conversation we had yesterday, have you?”

Felix looked down at Rueg with his arms crossed, as if daring him to make an excuse.

Under that icy gaze, Rueg screamed inwardly.

There was a time in the original story when Felix tried to drive Versha out.

The main reason was because she bullied the female lead, Yuri, but Versha’s attitude at work also played a part in that decision.

“I intend to dismiss Versha Verdic from the position of aide soon. The main reason is that she’s been hurting you, but… since her attitude up until now has not been commendable, others will accept it easily as well.”

When was that, again?

It was about the middle of the story, which meant it wouldn’t be long before that happened.

‘I can’t get fired like this…!’

I can’t end up buried in debt!

“I’m sorry!”

Having finished thinking, Rueg immediately bent at the waist, bowing his head deeply to Felix.

“…Sorry?”

“Y-Yes! I-I’m sorry for being late. I forgot, just like a goldfish…!”

At Rueg’s words, Felix narrowed his eyes.

He seemed to be wondering if Rueg was making such an apology as part of some scheme, or if he was genuinely repentant.

“I-I must have cut off my memory along with my hair!”

“……”

“It won’t happen again!”

With a voice as disciplined as a soldier, Felix let out a small laugh.

He had meant to ask why Rueg’s hair, which had reached his waist, was suddenly cut short, but Rueg brought it up himself, saying he’d cut off his memory with it.

“I thought I’d never see a Verdic apologize in my life.”

“…….”

“Well, I suppose that excuse about cutting off your mind along with your hair was at least original…”

Did it work?

Rueg looked up at Felix with a hopeful gaze. Felix’s red eyes curved into a smile as he spoke.

“As for being late, you’ll make up for it by handling all those documents.”

“……”

“I trust you have no objections, tardy one?”

At his gentle smile, Rueg swallowed dryly and looked at the desk.

When he saw the pile of paperwork stacked higher than a person’s head, Rueg’s lips began to tremble.

“Th-Those… all by myself?”

Was he serious?

“Why, would you rather do something else?”

He really seemed to be serious.

At Felix’s question, Rueg shook his head awkwardly.

If he said he couldn’t do it here… he’d probably be fired on the spot with the words, ‘Someone incompetent cannot serve as the Crown Prince’s aide.’

“…I’ll do it.”

In the end, Rueg had no choice but to sit down at the desk, his expression pained.

He immediately began to go through the mountain of documents. I can tell the white is paper and the black is writing, but… principal offender… exemption from liability… ratification… correction… deputy…?

‘…What does any of this even mean?’

He recognized some words, but there were far too many he didn’t know.

As his vision seemed to spin, and the corners of his lips drooped, Felix raised an eyebrow and spoke.

“That’s my seat, and yours is over there, Verdic.”

“……”

“Surely you’re not challenging my authority with some unspoken threat, just because I assigned you a bit of work?”

At Felix’s sharp tone, Rueg sprang up from his seat as if struck by lightning.

‘…No wonder she called him a dog of a Crown Prince.’

Rueg felt like he could finally understand Versha’s feelings, if only a little.
