Wrong Genre! - Chapter 4.1

When Rueg finally opened his eyes, late in the day, close to noon, he quickly straightened his disheveled clothes and dashed down the corridor.
‘How could I fall asleep!’
Just a little while ago, Rueg had been snuggled up under a warm, soft blanket, only to be jolted awake by a sudden wave of anxiety.
The moment his eyes landed on a chandelier so extravagant it couldn’t even be compared to the one in his own room, Rueg felt his heart plummet.
On the nightstand next to the bed was a note—clearly left by Felix.
[ Come to the office when you wake up. ]
The sentence was so short and forceful, he must have pressed so hard that the pen marks bled through to the back of the paper.
‘Did I die of sleep deprivation in my past life or something!’
Rueg barely managed to suppress a scream as he hurriedly rounded a corner.
Thud!
He collided with something and tumbled down the corridor.
His face had slammed into something hard, but the pain in his face came before he could even figure out what it was.
“Augh…”
Eyes tightly shut, Rueg let out a brief groan. Then, a strange voice rang out.
“Are you all righ… Versha Verdic?”
For a moment, the voice sounded gentle, but in an instant it changed, as if the speaker had just run into someone they never wanted to meet in their life.
When Rueg, clutching his sore cheek, slowly lifted his head—
“Wow…”
The exclamation slipped out before he could stop himself.
Silvery hair, long enough to reach the waist, shimmered beautifully like the Milky Way, and those cold blue eyes sparkled as if holding the sky itself.
“So pretty…”
Lost in admiration, Rueg mumbled under his breath, only to realize he’d just blurted something rude to someone he’d never met before and quickly covered his mouth.
Sure enough, the other person’s expression grew even more displeased.
“What did you just say?”
“I-I’m sorry! You’re just so beautiful, I said it without thinking…”
As Rueg awkwardly scrambled to his feet and apologized, the other person’s expression soured even further upon hearing it.
“That’s enough. We’re not on joking terms, are we?”
At the voice, dripping with coldness, Rueg shivered violently. Then, as if trying to read the other’s mood, he spoke.
“I-I wasn’t making fun of you. I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t say things like that carelessly… Uh, but you really are just so beautiful…”
“……”
“N-No! I mean… I’m just really sorry…”
The more he tried to explain, the stranger it all sounded, so Rueg just ended it with another apology.
‘This is weird.’
And the person standing in front of Rueg regarded him with an odd expression.
Normally, this person was full of both confidence and nerves, but right now, this person looked impossibly dejected, as if someone else entirely.
After a moment’s thought, they finally questioned Rueg.
“Did you, by any chance, hit your head?”
“Huh?”
“You’re acting like you don’t know who I am.”
Rueg blinked, listening to the other’s words.
…Wait a second.
‘Don’t tell me… do they know my sister?’
Rueg instinctively held his breath as he looked at the person.
Versha had always badmouthed the Crown Prince, but she’d never mentioned anything else about the imperial palace.
So Rueg had assumed Felix was the only one in the palace she knew, but maybe that wasn’t true.
“Uh, so…”
“Now that I think about it, I heard you were twins. Perhaps, you’re not Versha Verdic, but—”
Just as they were about to utter the answer Rueg desperately wanted to keep secret, Rueg rushed forward and slapped a hand over their mouth.
He glanced around, checking to see if anyone might have overheard, and the person frowned, pushing Rueg away.
“What do you think you’re doing—?”
“What do you think you’re saying!”
“……”
“I am Versha Verdic!”
As if willing the other to believe him, Rueg’s yellow eyes flashed.
‘I can’t let myself get found out!’
He was already barely keeping up with all the tasks Felix assigned him. If it were discovered that he wasn’t actually Versha but Rueg, there was no doubt he’d be thrown out of the palace immediately.
