Wrong Genre! - Chapter 5.2
When Rueg returned to the office, he gaped at Felix’s thunderbolt of a statement.
“Why do you look so unhappy, Verdic?”
“Th-that’s…”
“Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about having to rush home to see the sibling you left alone, even in this situation?”
At Felix’s next words, Rueg’s mouth fell open even wider. Don’t tell me she’s been using me as an excuse for leaving work on time all this time?
‘She was going on dates!’
Rueg’s lips opened and closed, not knowing what to say, but Felix continued.
“If you’re that worried about your brother, just bring Rueg Verdic to the imperial palace, too.”
“…P-Pardon?”
Rueg couldn’t hide his shocked expression as he stared at Felix.
It wasn’t the suggestion to stay at the palace that surprised him. After all, those who served the imperial family often lived in the palace, and it wasn’t unusual for the aides of high-ranking nobles to stay there as well.
What surprised Rueg was that Felix had mentioned the name ‘Rueg Verdic’ aloud.
‘He knows me…?’
How does he know?
Most people knew Versha had a twin brother, but very few knew that brother’s name was ‘Rueg’.
Was it that Felix simply knew the name, or had he actually met ‘Rueg Verdic’ before Rueg had transmigrated into this body?
After all, since Rueg had become this body, he rarely ever left the mansion.
‘If so, we would have only met when I was a child…’
While Rueg was lost in confusion, Felix frowned in displeasure.
Striding up to him, Felix reached out and took Rueg’s cheek in his hand.
The moment Felix’s fingers brushed the cut on his cheek, Rueg let out a startled “Ah!” and Felix gently stroked the wound as he spoke.
“You said it yourself. You have servants to feed.”
Nod, nod!
“I’ll raise your salary. But you’ll have to live here in the palace.”
“…R-Really?”
“I’m not raising it just for living here. From the moment you wake up in the morning to the moment you go to bed at night, you’ll serve me.”
The moment Felix finished speaking, all of Rueg’s previous questions vanished and a mental calculator started clacking away in his head.
He already had to arrive before 7:30 a.m. to wake Felix anyway.
And because he was still inexperienced at work, he couldn’t even dream of leaving on time. He’d doze off until after ten and get sent home like he was being thrown out.
By the time he reached the mansion, it would be 11 p.m. After washing up and going to bed, it would be almost midnight, so staying at the palace would clearly be more efficient in terms of time.
“…Will meals be provided too? I absolutely must have breakfast, ah! Ow!”
As soon as Rueg finished his question, Felix started pinching and pulling at his cheeks.
“If only you’d keep your mouth shut.”
Felix let go coldly, but then stroked Rueg’s wounded cheek again. This time, a soft white light shimmered in the air, and then faded away completely.
“Huh?”
What’s this?
As Rueg stared at the light in confusion, it gently settled on his cheek. The throbbing pain he’d felt there a moment ago disappeared completely.
“Meals will be available from 6 a.m. There’s a palace used as a dormitory, so you’ll receive further instructions there.”
At his words, Rueg nodded vigorously.
“And one more thing.”
“……?”
“As my aide, make sure not to show up anywhere with visible injuries.”
“Huh?”
“I don’t like it when my possessions are damaged.”
Felix flashed a sly smile as he met Rueg’s eyes, his words ripe for misunderstanding.
At the strange sensation, as if his heart had been struck with a hammer, Rueg unconsciously held his breath.
“Verdic?”
“S-Saying things like that…”
“……?”
“Saying things like that makes people misunderstand!”
Rueg burst out, grumbling without realizing it.
‘My possession’—! If he went around saying things like that, it was no wonder Versha Verdic had thrown everything away to have Felix to herself!
“Why?”
Unlike the flustered Rueg, Felix responded with a lazy smile.
“Did it make your heart flutter?”
The moment he heard that bewitching voice.
Thump.
Rueg felt as if his heart had pounded hard in his chest.
