…I must be out of my mind.

Back at the mansion, Rueg lay sideways on his bed, wearing a dazed expression.

There had been times when he’d unconsciously drooled just from Felix’s beauty whenever he saw his face.

He knew it was a disgraceful reaction, and after seeing him every day, he thought he’d gotten used to it and wouldn’t be so spellbound anymore.

“Did your heart flutter?”

The moment he heard that low, resonant voice, his heart pounded violently.

“That’s impossible.”

No, maybe it’s possible?

Grabbing his head, Rueg thought back on all the people he’d ever met.

Twenty years living as Na Yeongwon. And ten years as Rueg Verdic. In total, thirty years—Rueg had only ever dated men.

He’d always been gay, and, yes, his gaze would naturally be drawn to handsome people, but still…

“N-No way. Not Felix!”

He denied it with his lips, but the words Felix had spoken kept replaying in his mind.

‘Is it really not possible…?’

People said whether you see someone as a romantic interest or not depends on whether you could imagine kissing them.

Honestly, if he let his mind wander, he could easily picture kissing Felix…

“Uwaaah!”

Rueg cried out, abruptly leaping up in shock at his own runaway thoughts.

Absolutely not!

“I finally got Versha to like someone else, so I can’t be the one to fall for him!”

Besides, his childhood frenemy’s novel wasn’t a BL—it was a romance fantasy with straight protagonists. Even if Felix could say those sweet words so easily, in the end…

‘The male lead is going to end up with the female lead anyway…’

No more foolishness. He wouldn’t become the second Versha Verdic. He’d just be satisfied living out Rueg Verdic’s life.

“I need to get it together.”

Sighing, Rueg took a deep breath, forcing his fluttering heart to calm down.

If his heart had skipped a beat while looking at Felix, it was only because of that outrageously good-looking face.

The next day.

“Sigh…”

Felix let out a long sigh as he alternated glances between Rueg and the documents.

That heavy sigh made Rueg stiffen in his seat.

He’d sorted the documents properly and double-checked every page before sending them to Felix. Yet, it seemed he’d made another mistake.

“Are you Rueg Verdic?”

“Cough, c-cough…! Huh?!”

How did he find out?!

Felix’s face twisted at Rueg’s suspicious reaction, which could only look guilty.

Without hiding his look of disappointment, he pushed the documents toward Rueg.

And the moment Rueg saw them, he gaped without realizing it. In the spot for a signature, instead of Versha’s name, he’d absentmindedly signed his own out of habit.

“Th-this, um, it’s…”

“Where did you leave your mind? Or is your sibling really ill or something?”

“…Pardon?”

“You’ve been out of it for days now. You can’t even do things you used to do well.”

At Felix’s words, Rueg’s lips parted.

If he just nodded here, maybe it would serve as an excuse for his recent mistakes at work.

‘But… then I’d be lying…’

It hurt his conscience too much to lie to the boss who’d even given him a raise.

Unable to give a proper answer, Rueg averted his eyes, and Felix nodded to himself, as if he’d figured it out.

“Right, if that’s the case, it’s understandable you’d feel troubled.”

“……?”

“Rueg Verdic has always been frail since childhood, hasn’t he? Is it something serious this time, too?”

He hadn’t said a word, but Felix seemed to draw his own conclusions.

He even stroked his chin with a serious face, muttering, “Maybe I was too harsh, telling you to stay at the palace during a time like this?”

‘My sister must have really been good at her job…’

They say even if you have a nasty temper, a boss will forgive anything if you’re good at your work.
