A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 1.2
“……!”
At that moment, the memorial speech someone had been reciting came to an abrupt halt.
Thanks to that, I noticed a rope wrapped around my right wrist.
A flash of an old superstition crossed my mind… that a bell is tied to a corpse’s wrist to prevent accidental live burials.
“There’s someone else out here! Please let me out! Save me!”
Certain now that I was ringing the bell, I began frantically shaking my hand.
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
The ringing grew so loud, it was impossible for anyone to ignore it.
If it was that clear to me, shut inside the coffin, it must be deafening outside.
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Diiiiiing―!
How long had I kept swinging my right hand nonstop?
Clatter, clatter, clatter―
At last, with a heavy sound, the lid began to move.
A sliver of cool air and a shaft of light streamed in through the crack.
Soon after, my field of vision opened up completely.
At that moment, my eyes met with the man who was opening the coffin lid.
“Huhk!”
He gasped, his face turning ashen, and stumbled back in shock.
I didn’t care. I abruptly sat up.
“Are you all out of your minds?”
Diiing!
The bell rang out loudly once again.
I ignored it and shouted at the top of my lungs.
“Why the hell would you put a perfectly healthy person inside a coffin like this?!”
“……”
“Who’s the doctor here? Can’t even check someone’s vitals properly?!”
Ding! Ding, diiing……
In the heavy silence, my yelling and the clear sound of the bell echoed back and forth.
After venting my anger, my pounding heart gradually calmed down.
Only then did I look around.
The funeral was taking place in a quiet outdoor setting.
Foreigners I’d never seen before, all dressed in dreary black.
Their faces, contorted with shock as though they’d seen a ghost, left me utterly dumbfounded.
‘Who’s the one who really ought to be shocked here?’
It was then.
“H-Huu…! Th-The corpse…! The corpse got up!”
Someone pointed at me and shouted.
That was the trigger.
“Kyaaaaa―!”
“T-The Lady has come back to life!”
“A monster! She might be a monster! Stay back!”
People all began to scream and fall over themselves.
Some shrieked, some tripped and fell while backing away, some ran off sobbing and wailing……
The whole place devolved into utter chaos.
I stared in disbelief at the funeral that had turned into a complete disaster in the blink of an eye.
Everyone seemed so stunned that I couldn’t even figure out who to grab and demand an explanation for locking me up.
“Edith Blake has been resurrected!”
Even amidst the confusion, a few people pointed at me, uttering chilling words.
I tried to dodge, but their fingers followed me persistently.
Just then, a stray breeze blew, making my long hair slide down over my shoulders.
“Hah……”
Noticing the brilliant blond hair, I let out a hollow laugh.
I had never once dyed my hair in my life, and ever since becoming an adult, I’d always kept it cut short.
So whose waist-length blond hair was this?
Whose delicate wrists looked like they’d snap at the slightest touch?
Whose fingers were adorned with all these fancy gemstone rings?
‘This is a dream, right?’
I instinctively denied it.
Honestly, it made no sense. To have possessed the villainess in a novel.
And what the hell was this damned funeral?
And being trapped inside a coffin?
“Ow……”
Hoping to wake up from the dream, I pinched my face here and there, but gradually came to realize this was reality.
And when I met the eyes of the people freaking out and going wild at the sight of me, I screamed right along with them.
“Aaaaaaaaah―!”
Ding, ding, ding……
