A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 19.2
‘She must have poured an incredible amount of healing power into him to slow the corruption this much.’
Which was probably why she’d ended up on the verge of going on rampage.
But the real problem wasn’t the child’s condition, it’s the shackle on his ankle.
“Never mind the purification, how are we supposed to get him out of here?”
I pointed at it as I asked, and Eston rummaged through her clothes and pulled something out.
“I’m sorry.”
“……!”
What she handed me was, of all things, a key.
The back of my head tingled as if I’d just been hit hard.
I glared at Eston and shot back sharply.
“Didn’t you say you couldn’t get him out?”
“…I thought if you saw him in person, Your Ladyship, you’d be willing to purify my brother.”
“You still see me as the kind of person who gets swayed by that sort of sentiment?”
I asked irritably, and she bowed her head again, mumbling another ‘I’m sorry.’
She must have gone through so much with the villagers that she was scared I might change my mind at the last minute.
I couldn’t say I didn’t understand, but it was hard not to feel a little annoyed.
‘Well, I didn’t make her sign any kind of contract. It’s just words, so I guess it’s only natural she’d be wary.’
But I accepted it quickly enough.
Just as I didn’t trust Eston, it was only natural that she didn’t trust me.
“Just in case, hold onto both his arms. So he can’t move.”
As I crouched in front of Theo and spoke, Eston’s eyes went wide.
“You’re… not mad?”
“Are you kidding? I’ve already come all this way. Who has time to be angry? Hurry up and cooperate.”
“Y-Yes, Milady!”
Looking stunned out of her mind, she finally grabbed her little brother’s arms.
I reached out and placed my hand on Theo’s head.
Focusing, I murmured softly.
“…Purify.”
Whoooosh—!
Just like yesterday, my palm grew hot, and a vivid green light with a refreshing scent burst forth.
Even seeing it again, it was amazing.
‘Back in the modern world, my purification never made light like this…’
Of course, even being able to purify the corrupted was something I could never have dreamed of.
Of all the shitty things about transmigrating, to gain the very power I’d always longed for. Was there ever a more ironic situation?
Luckily, purifying Theo was far easier than stopping Eston from going on rampage.
Not long after I started, his pitch-black, dilated pupils regained their original color.
Brown eyes, just like Eston’s.
Once I confirmed it, I immediately let go.
Thud!
At the same moment, the boy’s body toppled to the side like a puppet with its strings cut.
“T-Theo!”
“You fainted the same way yesterday. He’ll be fine once he wakes up.”
“Oh…”
With my calm explanation, Eston’s pale face brightened a little.
It was a little ridiculous how she could be so wary of me but still believe these words so completely.
Hugging her little brother, she bowed her head, eyes brimming with tears.
“T-Thank you, Milady! Truly, thank you so much!”
“…Just get that shackle off so we can go.”
Wiping away her tears, Eston unlocked the shackle with trembling hands.
Fwooosh…
At the same time, the green light still seeping from my palm finally faded.
‘Do I need to practice turning this off or something?’
I stared at my now-normal hand for a moment, then started to stand.
“…Ah.”
Suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit, making my vision spin.
“A-Are you alright?”
Eston, watching me sway, asked with a worried face.
I pressed my brow and nodded.
“I’m fine.”
Actually, I wasn’t.
The dizziness passed quickly, but my whole body felt as heavy as if I’d been dunked in cold water.
I must have overdone it, using my ability two days in a row.
“Let’s go, Nancy!”
By then, Eston had slung her brother onto her back and hurried ahead.
I followed, weaving through the ice blocks, and gave her a reminder.
“As you can see, I’m not some amazing talent like Llewellyn. Your brother is my limit.”
“That’s alright. Those people aren’t even my family.”
I’d wondered if she’d feel guilty about not being able to save the others, but not at all.
Eston replied with an icy detachment that made me lose all affection for her.
“Hah! Then why’d you make a fuss about stoning me and whatnot earlier?”
“Th-that… I apologized, didn’t I?”
“You were full of advice about what happens when people leave, but you’re just as bad, you know?”
“Guess I’m the type who doesn’t get caught up in sentiment, just like you, Nancy.”
“Honestly, you never miss a chance to talk back, do you?”
“……”
Bickering with Eston, we made our way out of the gloomy ice graveyard.
“W-Wait!”
Suddenly, someone jumped out and blocked our way.
“Um, you’re the Purifier, right? Why… Why are you just leaving? What about the others?”
