That chilling sensation I’d felt in the duke’s office crawled down my spine again.

Why, of all times, now.

“…s if Father would actually—”

“—up.”

“Edith?”

“……Shut up.”

“What?”

“Why don’t you fix that crude way of talking of yours for once?”

I couldn’t even tell if the person in front of me was really Ethan, or my biological father’s eldest adopted child.

Everything was jumbled up, all mixed together like mush.

Unfortunately for him, with my ears still covered, I spewed out all the words I’d never managed to say in the past, mixing them with what I wanted to say right now.

It wasn’t so much speech as it was poison.

“I told you, go ahead and tell Father if you want to.”

“Edith.”

“I know you’re a dragon that crawled out of the mud, so could you stop projecting your inferiority complex onto me all the time?”

“Watch your mouth, Edith Blake.”

“Look in the mirror, Ethan Douglas—!”

Just moments ago, I’d felt like I was about to pass out, so where had I found the strength to scream like this?

“H-heuk… haah…!”

Screaming Ethan’s real name, which I’d only glimpsed in the novel, I started to hyperventilate.

―――!

At last, the ringing that felt like it was eating away at my brain stopped.

Ethan looked genuinely flustered by my outburst, his icy blue eyes shaking with confusion.

I glared at him, my face a total mess, and managed a twisted smile.

“What, does it make you feel like you’re somebody just because I called you ‘Brother’?”

“You…”

“You’re nothing but a murderer who stood by and watched the duke’s real daughter die.”

“What are you—!”

“You were just waiting to take my place after I died, weren’t you? Did you already forget, just because I kept my mouth shut? The Tollen Gate!”

At my words, Ethan’s face froze in shock.

“Y-You… your memory…”

His stammering words slowly brought my blurry vision back into focus.

Maybe my lost mind was returning.

And as soon as it did, regret came flooding in.

‘I went too far.’

I should’ve held back a little longer.

Of all things, Ethan had to say something that triggered a memory I was supposed to have lost…

There went my handy excuse of amnesia.

‘…Well, it can’t be helped. It’s not like it was a card I could use forever anyway.’

I tried to console myself.

To be honest, ever since what happened with Serge, I’d been out of my mind.

Then running into Ethan, who only grated on my nerves. Of course my fuse would snap.

“…Edith?”

It was then that another voice called out to me from behind.

Male Lead #2.

“You said you were going to the bathroom, did you fall in the toi—”

Vincent suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

And, just like Ethan, his eyes widened as he took in my appearance.

“…What happened to you? Who did this?”

“Ha…”

As if dealing with Male Lead #4 wasn’t enough, now male leads 1 and 2 as well.

Roughly running my fingers through my tangled hair, I let out a hollow laugh.

“Nothing’s going right today…”

“Who was it? Tell me. Did something happen in the bathroom?”

Vincent, instantly closing the distance, demanded in a menacing tone.

So eager to act like he didn’t care before, but now he was pretending to be concerned.

Disgusting. Revolting.

At this point, I almost preferred Ethan, who at least sounded sure I’d been in a fight.

Smack―!

At that thought, I jerked my shoulder out of Ethan’s grip irritably.

And immediately started walking away.

But again. My wrist was grabbed. Again.

“Hey.”

“Let go. I told you not to touch me without permission.”

Shaking his hand off harshly, I didn’t even look back as I muttered,

“Looks like Llewellyn still hasn’t shown up. Your use for me is over, so can you stop pretending to care?”

“At least tell us what happened… Hey, Edith! Edith!”

The side door to the ballroom was just ahead.

I ignored him and marched straight toward it.

Suddenly, the light spilling from the door was blocked by a large figure.

Even against the backlight, I could make out the vivid red hair and dark gray eyes staring directly at me.

Male Lead #3, Dylan Frederick.

He had appeared out of nowhere to block the entrance, meaning I’d have to get past him to enter the ballroom.

To be standing here with Male Leads #1, #2, and #3 all together.

A total disaster.

‘What is wrong with today…’

Was I hit by a curse? Or is this bad luck? Or maybe a hex?

If there really were gods in this novel, they must’ve decided today was the day to wring me dry.

Even without that telekinetic monster, it was getting hard to breathe.

I couldn’t take it anymore.

The whole world seemed to spin as I collapsed right where I stood.

“Edith—!”

Someone called my name desperately, his voice muffled as if underwater.

I didn’t want to hear it.

So I closed my eyes.
