A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 49.1
“Subjugation campaign, huh…”
Once I’d gathered myself to some degree, I sat down at my desk for the first time in a while and pulled out paper and pen.
Then, I compared the information I’d learned with <How to Save a Forsaken World>.
I wasn’t sure whether the author had just been lazy or had intentionally simplified things for readability, but there were quite a few differences between the novel’s setting and reality.
‘Good thing I asked the butler, just in case.’
The upcoming Equines Island arc, for example, turned out to be closely related to a ‘Gate Wave’, which wasn’t mentioned at all in the novel.
Apparently, during a total lunar eclipse, the barrier surrounding the Gate Wave weakens, allowing high-grade monsters to break through!
“You’ve got to be kidding me… In the novel, it was just about clearing out deep-sea monsters, wasn’t it?”
That’s why the ‘subjugation campaign’ held at midnight on the first day of the commemoration wasn’t some leisurely event. It was a vital, unavoidable annual operation.
Furrowing my brow, I recalled how the novel had described the campaign.
「 The subjugation campaign brings forth elite Awakeners from each household, who compete to see who can defeat the greatest number and highest-grade monsters.
The winner receives gold coins, a noble title, and a wish token as a reward.
Each year, there’s a romantic tradition where the winner uses the wish token to court the woman he loves.
The chosen woman is then called the ‘Flower of Equines’. 」
It was the kind of setup only a romance novel would have.
But what was even more absurd was that this year, all four male leads won the campaign, rendering the wish tokens completely useless.
Instead, each of the male leads presents a part of the monster they defeated, considered something of great value, as a gift to the female lead to show their affection.
“Something like a heart… or a horn, wasn’t it…?”
Surprisingly, in this world, body parts from high-grade monsters were used as currency, jewels, or even medicinal ingredients.
It probably had to do with the monsters’ intricate forms, which often resembled divine beasts or legendary creatures.
‘Right. That’s probably why that bastard Serge brought me that thing, claiming it was an herbal medicine…’
Anyway, thanks to that, the female lead ends up sitting on a pile of money, and she promises to purify all four male leads equally.
And then…
“…I think she chose Dylan.”
From what I remembered, there wasn’t really a special reason behind it.
Llewellyn had already rejected Dylan’s proposal once, and had distanced herself from him for a while.
But in the end, she was moved by his unwavering love.
The two of them become the most beautiful couple at the reception, and they spend their first passionate night together.
“Ugh!”
Thwack!
I grimaced and threw my pen.
It hadn’t bothered me much when I was just reading it, but now that I’d actually met him in person…
I really didn’t want to know. Stuff like the characters’ sex lives.
“Haah… Anyway, what matters is that Llewellyn won’t be at this year’s commemoration.”
There was only one important thing.
There was no female lead to purify the male leads after they returned from the campaign.
Perhaps because it had been so long since they’d seen her, the male leads hadn’t looked very stable lately.
‘They’re all pushing seventy, eighty percent aren’t they?’
Right after a subjugation campaign, when they’ve pushed their abilities to the limit… with those numbers, it wouldn’t be surprising if one of them went berserk.
Thinking of that, I suddenly shook my head hard.
“…No. What do I care if those bastards go berserk?”
Rather than worrying about that, it would be wiser to find the female lead as soon as possible.
And if all else failed, I could always come up with an excuse not to go to Equines Island.
“…Yeah. First things first. Let’s try to find the female lead.”
Thankfully, the novel’s contents weren’t completely useless.
Ding, ding.
I rang the bell sitting on one side of the desk.
Soon after, there was a knock, and Nancy came in.
“You called, Miss?”
“Nancy. Can you go fetch Eston for me? Say us ladies have some private matters to discuss.”
Because if I was going to search for the female lead, I’d need a helper first.

The next day.
I was busy preparing to go out practically since dawn.
Nancy and a few other maids helped with dressing me.
“Just keep it simple.”
“But still. It’s your first shopping trip in a while…”
“I’m pretty no matter what I wear.”
“Of course. Even if you wore a sackcloth, you’d be beautiful, Miss…”
Nancy seemed positively giddy about this rare outing.
Since I wasn’t actually going shopping, it all just felt like a hassle to me.
