“Haa…”

A sigh welled up from deep inside me.

I’d only come here hoping to glean some clue about the female lead’s whereabouts.

So why the hell was I getting dragged into this dogshit mess?

The only thing certain was that I had not the slightest intention of ‘purifying’ some man who was venting his temper on me for no reason.

‘Still, I did need to drive this point into him sooner or later.’

Back in Tollen, I’d collapsed before I ever had the chance to say it.

That the Edith he knew no longer existed.

Forcing down my irritation, I met his gaze and said coldly,

“After I woke up from my coma, I lost my memory.”

“……”

“So now, I only know surface-level things about you, Sir.”

His eyes flew wide.

Then, as if in disbelief, he demanded,

“You’re saying… you lost your memory?”

“Yes. Of course, I’ve heard the rough outline of your past.”

“Wh…at……”

“That you used to be my attendant.”

“……!”

Dylan flinched at those words.

He stared at me for a long moment before his brow furrowed sharply.

“And you expect me to believe that?”

“Believe it or not, that’s your choice. I’m only explaining that I was told to treat you as before, and now that’s impossible.”

“……”

“I hear you always despised being tied to me in any way. That you were infamous for either skipping events I attended or leaving the moment I arrived.”

“That was…”

His lips parted, but in the end, he shut them without offering a single excuse.

Clearly, he hadn’t expected me to state it so bluntly, and with such detached indifference, like a stranger.

“It’s regrettable that we’ve had to meet like this again, after last time.”

“……”

“But don’t worry. From now on, I won’t ever greet you first or chatter about you in the slightest. After all.”

“……”

“I don’t even remember what kind of person you used to be.”

My shoulder was beginning to ache.

I flicked my eyes toward the hand that still gripped it tightly.

“If you understand, then please let me go now.”

“……”

“Sir Frederick.”

But he didn’t budge.

By now, I’d explained enough for anyone to get the point.

Yet he only stared at me with an unreadable expression, as if I couldn’t fathom what he was thinking.

‘For fuck’s sake, let go already! I need to run before you rampage!’

I kept glancing nervously at the number above his head, biting back my impatience.

And then.

95%

For some reason, as the gauge ticked up again.

Drip, drip.

Thick, black blood trickled from Dylan’s nose.

Startled, I froze.

And in that moment, he murmured with a dreamlike expression,

“…When I first saw you here earlier.”

“……”

“I thought you’d come looking for me.”

His whisper jolted me back to my senses.

I hurried to rouse him.

“Sir, wait. You’re bleeding—”

“In the dream, it was always like that. You’d come to me first… and you’d comfort me.”

“Sir Frederick.”

Drip, drip.

But it was useless.

The black stream pouring from his nose only thickened, not lessened.

‘Damn it, he’s about to rampage.’

I had no idea what I’d said to trigger this.

All I’d wanted was to reassure a man who hated me.

‘Not here. Not with so many people around.’

In the middle of the slums, lined endlessly with shacks.

Even an ordinary Awakener would be a disaster here, but Dylan Frederick was an S-Class Awakener.

If he rampaged, this entire district would turn into a sea of fire.

Gnawing at my lower lip, I studied him closely.

Thankfully, though his focus was wavering, he didn’t seem to have lost his sanity yet.

“Sir Frederick. I don’t have anything to wipe with. Calm yourself and take care of your nose first.”

“Whenever I see you, I can’t calm down.”

The fact that he responded immediately proved he was still lucid.

And yet, Dylan simply left the black blood dripping freely as he stared fixedly at me.

“I’m angry.”

“At what?”

“I’m a noble now. So why is it that every time I face you, I feel like nothing but an insect?”

“Sir, first you need to let go—”

“I thought inheriting my title would make me your equal. But why is it…”

Abruptly, he lowered the hand that wasn’t holding me, gazing down at it emptily.

“…that you still feel so far beyond my reach?”

96%

The number rose again.

In that instant, realization struck me like lightning.

‘This bastard… he’s not in his right mind.’

The only Awakener I’d seen before rampage was Eston.

I hadn’t seen Serge because I purified him too quickly, but Eston had begun hallucinating, lashing out the moment she started bleeding.

That was why I hadn’t immediately recognized how dire Dylan’s condition really was.

Aside from the nosebleed, his expression and his gaze…

Showed no change at all.
