“Grrr…”

The Corrupted emerged through the hazy smoke, staggering as they walked out.

It seemed they had slaughtered all the prey inside. Every one of them was drenched in blood, their appearance horrific.

The only fortunate thing in this misfortune was that their movements were extremely slow and unsteady.

It was probably because of the hallucinogen.

‘What do I do? Will the perfume work on the Corrupted too? Or should I just risk getting exposed and purify all of them?’

I bit my lips as I watched the rotting, zombie-like figures slowly drawing closer.

“Hah… this is getting more interesting by the second.”

Despite barely managing to block the strands of attacking hair one by one, Serge spouted nonsense.

My stress was reaching its limit.

When they had been scattered across the wide space, it hadn’t been obvious, but now that they were gathered together, there were quite a lot of Corrupted.

At least more than ten.

‘…Even if I use purification, can I handle all of them?’

Honestly, I wasn’t confident.

But I couldn’t just stand here helpless and get torn apart either.

‘Should I crawl up while Serge holds them off and deal with those two first?’

Anything. Stop hesitating and choose, you idiot!

I couldn’t figure out what the best option was.

The extreme pressure was crushing me.

At that moment.

“Tsk. Why are you just standing there like an idiot? Planning to play tag with the Corrupted?”

A mocking voice suddenly pierced my ear.

As if all the frantic thoughts running through my head were completely pointless.

“……!”

Startled, I turned around.

Serge was there, holding thousands of strands of hair suspended right in front of him.

The mass of black strands looked like a monster that could swallow him whole at any moment.

It was a bizarre and chilling sight.

“Y-Your Highness…”

As if controlling his ability, he held one hand out for once and spoke without even looking at me.

“Instead of wandering around trying to do something and getting your throat bitten, come here.”

“……”

“I already know you’re not very useful, Ducal Lady.”

It was infuriating and unfair, but I couldn’t refute it.

Holding back tears, I hurried over to him.

“W-What are you going to do?”

“Where did you put the handkerchief I gave you earlier?”

“Here.”

When I pulled it out of my pocket where I had stuffed it carelessly, he clicked his tongue as if scolding.

“Are you a child? Cover your mouth and nose without being told. Do you want acute Hesis poisoning?”

That made me shrink a little.

With the sudden flood of Corrupted, I had been so distracted that I hadn’t even thought about blocking the hallucinogen.

Like an obedient child, I immediately covered my mouth and nose with the handkerchief.

“Grrk, grrr…”

Meanwhile, the distance between us and the Corrupted had grown quite close.

Only about five or six steps away.

‘…Ugh, this is horrible.’

I clenched and unclenched my hands repeatedly, ready to use purification at any moment, but the fear still made my legs tremble.

To be honest, the appearance of the approaching Corrupted was something I would dread seeing in my nightmares.

And the long hair Serge was holding back strand by strand was just as horrifying.

‘What if an explosion happens too? Can he really handle all of this alone?’

Male Lead #4 was seriously injured, and I was practically useless even with an ability.

Since transmigrating into this world, I had never felt this powerless before.

This whole situation was something that lunatic had brought upon himself.

And yet.

For some reason, hiding behind him like this made me feel pathetic and miserable.

At that moment.

“Listen carefully, Ducal Lady.”

Serge suddenly glanced at me from the corner of his eye and spoke with confidence.

“I’m the type who doesn’t care what dies around me during a fight.”

“……”

“So if you don’t want to die, stick right behind my back. Got it?”

He really was an unbearable man.

‘Is that something you should be saying? Who do you think is suffering through all this because of you…!’

But I didn’t have any other choice.

Reluctantly, I nodded.

Then he replied in a satisfied voice.

“Good. Now things are roughly sorted.”

The word “Good,” which had always sounded ominous, felt strangely reassuring today.

Had I finally been affected by the hallucinogen too?

“Listen, Ducal Lady. I have a condition where I repay anything done to me twice over. So don’t feel too wronged.”

“……”

“And one more thing.”

“……”

“I don’t like women with a lot of hair. Remember that, Ducal Lady.”

Why am I…

Just as that thought crossed my mind.

Riiiip—!

With a chilling sound, as if something had just been violently torn out.
