Finding Legion Street, 5th Block, the meeting place, felt like a miracle.

While I had been wandering endlessly through the maze-like alleys, I was worried I might end up trapped there forever.

But once I reached the main road, it wasn’t actually that far.

Thankfully, the cargo carriage carrying Eston hadn’t left yet.

“Milady!”

She had been pacing in front of the carriage, waiting, and ran toward me the moment she spotted me.

“Eston.”

“I almost left without you! You weren’t there, so I thought you’d already gone ahead! Hurry, get in.”

She poured out her complaints while clutching her chest in relief.

I barely listened and grabbed her arm.

“This isn’t the time. I need your help.”

“What? W-Where are we going?”

“Just follow me.”

Perhaps because my expression looked serious, Eston followed without another word.

Since I had already opened the route once, the way back was much faster.

Fortunately, Serge was still there when I returned with Eston.

At the sight of him collapsed and covered in blood, Eston recoiled in shock.

“Th, this person is…”

“It’s His Highness the Grand Duke.”

“Gasp! Th, that butcher?!”

Because she had worked at the Imperial Palace, she was already familiar with Serge’s nickname.

I gave a rough nod and whispered urgently.

“Check if he’s died while I was gone.”

“He’s obviously not dead, Milady.”

Eston pointed at Serge’s chest, which was rising and falling faintly, with a baffled expression.

‘That’s strange.’

Earlier, I had been too shocked to notice things like that.

Even though I had stopped the bleeding, there had been so much blood.

Honestly, I had been afraid he might die while I went to find Eston.

“…I’ll start with healing.”

I hadn’t told her to heal him, but Eston crouched in front of Serge on her own.

Carefully removing the blood-soaked inner skirt I had pressed against the wound, she immediately placed both hands over it.

A moment later, flash―!

Bright light burst from her palms.

Only then did I stagger over and collapse onto the step at the building entrance.

“Haa…”

A quiet breath slipped through my lips, something between relief and exhaustion.

Suddenly, I noticed my hands trembling.

I had thought I was afraid he might die, but it seemed I had been more shaken than I realized.

Afraid I wouldn’t be able to find the way.

Afraid, deep down, that I wouldn’t be able to find Eston.

‘As long as he’s not dead, that’s enough.’

After staring blankly at my trembling hands, I raised them and roughly wiped my face.

How much time had passed?

“I’ve done everything I can for now.”

At last, Eston finished the healing.

I lowered my hands from my face and glanced at Serge.

The wound should have closed, but he was still frowning deeply.

Eston explained why.

“However… there are too many tiny punctures, so he’ll need to be healed a few more times.”

“…He can take care of that himself.”

I nodded indifferently.

If anything, this was already more kindness than what he had ordered me to do.

As I thought that, Eston suddenly narrowed her eyes.

“I’m just asking in case, purely out of concern… Milady, you didn’t do this to him, did you?”

“……”

“I-I can’t be involved in a crime because of Theo! No matter how much you threaten me, I won’t help with destroying evidence or preparing for escape or anything like that…”

“Hah.”

I let out a hollow laugh.

“You’ve been reading too many detective novels. You’re banned from the library for a while.”

“Th, that’s not fair!”

Eston looked deeply wronged.

“I told you I was only asking just in case…”

“Say something that makes sense, Eston. How would I possibly do this to an S-Class Awakener?”

“…Tch. His Highness the Grand Duke was attacked by an assailant recently, so I thought…”

“Do you think that assailant was me?”

She shook her head gloomily.

I was the cause.

But I ignored the guilty feeling and spoke smoothly without hesitation.

“I ran into him while I was out taking care of something. I recognized his face, and I couldn’t just ignore him.”

Only then did Eston seem convinced. That was a relief.
