As If Transmigrating Wasn’t Enough, I’m Pregnant?! - Chapter 1.4
“Looks like you’re desperate for money again. Then again, with your standard of living, selling your body would probably be the quickest way to make some.”
His words were like daggers, mercilessly tearing into Ryu Hae-sol’s heart. He spoke with the arrogance of someone who knew everything about Hae-sol. And yet, there wasn’t the slightest trace of sympathy or compassion in his voice. It was filled with nothing but contempt and ridicule.
Do Won-hyung was a far more cruel and far more merciless man than he had been portrayed in the novel.
The realization hit Hae-sol hard. He could do nothing but stare blankly, too stunned to even respond, when another cutting remark reached his ears.
“Then how much will it take? Why don’t you tell me yourself how much a night with you is worth?”
Ryu Hae-sol hesitated for a moment. Even when he had been living as Moon Seong-yoon, he had never been someone who had received payment for spending a night with another person.
Who could put a price on their own worth?
In the end, Ryu Hae-sol opened his mouth and spoke to Do Won-hyung.
“……Pay me with the highest fee you can offer.”
At Hae-sol’s words, Do Won-hyung’s gray eyes wavered ever so slightly for a fleeting moment. However, rather than surprise, his reaction was closer to a cynical assessment, a mixture of faint interest and wariness toward an unexpected variable.
He silently studied Ryu Hae-sol standing before him.
This was clearly not the Ryu Hae-sol he had known until yesterday. He was no longer the insignificant Omega who had always been intimidated, constantly worrying about what others thought of him. The useless little thing who had clung to him so pitifully, as if begging not to be abandoned, had disappeared without a trace.
Instead, Hae-sol was looking him straight in the eye with a bold gaze completely at odds with his shabby clothes, daring to talk about compensation. And not just any compensation, but under the utterly audacious condition of the highest fee you can offer.
It was an unmistakable test and provocation directed at him. There was no way Do Won-hyung could fail to recognize that.
The mocking smile that had been lingering at the corner of his mouth vanished in an instant. In its place settled a chilling coldness.
Without saying a word, Do Won-hyung stared intently at Ryu Hae-sol.
He kept staring, as though observing a creature he had never seen before, scrutinizing him relentlessly from head to toe. His gaze seemed to be searching for the source of this incongruous boldness.
Hae-sol’s shoulders visibly tensed, but even so, he didn’t avert his gaze. That faint display of resistance only grated on Do Won-hyung’s nerves even more. The way Hae-sol had changed overnight deeply irritated him.
Silence lingered for a while.
The air in the hotel room grew heavier and heavier under the oppressive weight of Do Won-hyung’s Alpha pheromones. He stared at Ryu Hae-sol with the relentless gaze of a predator eyeing its prey.
At last, Do Won-hyung slowly turned around and picked up the wallet he had tossed onto the bed. He pulled out a thick bundle of cash and ostentatiously fanned it out in his hand. The fluttering sound of dozens of fifty-thousand-won bills stirred Hae-sol’s humiliation.
“The highest fee, huh…….”
His voice was as cold as ice.
He lightly tapped Hae-sol’s cheek with the bundle of cash. The gesture was gentle in force but deeply humiliating in intent. When the bills brushed against his skin, Hae-sol’s eyes flickered with anger. As though he were enjoying the reaction, Do Won-hyung twisted his lips into a sneer.
“You think someone like you has the right to tell me to name your price? Don’t make me laugh. Just how much do you think that worthless body of yours is worth?”
He viciously flung the bundle of cash at Hae-sol’s face.
The fifty-thousand-won bills fluttered helplessly through the air before scattering messily across the floor. It looked as though Hae-sol’s pathetic pride had been shattered into pieces.
Do Won-hyung seized Hae-sol by the chin and forcefully tilted his head up, making him look at him. His gray eyes gleamed with anger and excitement.
“From now on, learn your place and crawl like you should. Then who knows? Maybe I’ll pay you more.”
He released Hae-sol’s chin and brushed off his hands as though he had touched something filthy. Then, as if nothing had happened, he began putting on his shirt and buttoning it up.
The money scattered across the floor. Ryu Hae-sol standing before him in a daze.
Do Won-hyung acted as though neither was worth a second thought. In Do Won-hyung’s world, Ryu Hae-sol was nothing more than a fleeting source of amusement, nothing more and nothing less.
And there could have been no clearer way to drive that fact home.
