Eli let out another hearty laugh. The sound was louder than expected, enough to make Cielo’s head ring.

“Please keep it down. Master is a patient right now,” Oscar said.

At Oscar’s words, Cielo widened his eyes.

What was Oscar thinking, speaking that way when no one could predict what might come out of Eli’s twisted mouth?

Just as Cielo hurriedly tried to intervene, Eli blinked and responded.

“Ah, right. You’re right. My apologies.”

“…What?”

Cielo couldn’t believe his ears.

‘So… that was an apology? From Eli?’

He stared at him in blank disbelief, and Oscar merely shrugged. It was as if to say: He’s been like this ever since we reunited.

Still… Cielo can’t trust it.

If it were really Eli, he would’ve surely nitpicked every little thing right then and there—like Oscar’s lack of proper decorum, or Cielo lying down in the presence of the Crown Prince.

His injuries were real, but what worried him more was the trouble that would surely follow later.

As Cielo carefully tried to sit up, Eli waved his hands dismissively.

“Ah, don’t get up. Stay lying down. Neither of you can use your abilities right now, can you?”

“But…”

“But?”

Eli raised a brow as if to ask: Are you actually defying an order?

Either way, trouble seemed inevitable.

In the end, Cielo gave up and let himself sink back into the pillow. Even if this became a problem, it would be after he’d recovered anyway. For now, he just wanted rest.

“…There’s something I want to ask.”

Cielo, who had been staring blankly at the ceiling, finally spoke.

Eli, as if expecting it, crossed his arms and replied.

“All right. What are you curious about?”

“Back at the palace, I was still able to use my ability. No—more precisely, up until I fell off the cliff…”

“And now you’re wondering why you can’t use it anymore?”

At Eli’s prompt, Cielo nodded. Oscar also seemed to share the question and looked sharply at Eli.

“This forest…”

Eli paused for a moment, his eyes moving back and forth between Cielo and Oscar. After watching their faces for a while, he shrugged and continued.

“There’s nothing special about it.”

“What? Then why…!”

Startled, Cielo tried to sit up again, but Oscar quickly pressed down on his shoulder to stop him.

It didn’t make sense. If the forest had no such effect, then why had neither he nor Oscar been able to use their abilities this entire time?

“You said your memory vanished after I struck you.”

“…”

“A temporary sealing of your ability. That’s Pielago Cloud Esteban’s power, isn’t it?”

Eli asked with his arms still crossed, as if to say, Don’t you remember?

Cielo’s eyes opened wide, his lips parting slightly.

“…Then, do you happen to know what the eldest brother’s ability is?”

“Sol? From what I remember, it was nothing impressive. Something like dragging up old memories buried deep in someone’s mind, I think.”

Eli stroked his chin as he spoke.

The twins of the Duke of Esteban.

Despite both being Alphas, their abilities were so unimpressive that they drew attention for an entirely different reason—and that’s why people remembered them.

“A trivial ability…”

Cielo murmured and lowered his gaze.

In this world, people held deep interest in those with traits.

Since everyone was born with a unique ability, those with marked traits could potentially wield even greater power.

That interest, of course, stemmed from the existence of monsters.

Even now, monsters appeared endlessly. The number of people who died from them each year exceeded tens of thousands.

People hoped that more trait-bearers with powerful abilities would emerge—people who could hunt even a single monster.

Naturally, that interest had also extended to the Esteban twins, who had manifested as Alphas from a young age.

But the twins’ abilities were…

“…powers that couldn’t harm monsters.”

Cielo’s ability, too, couldn’t inflict harm on monsters—but at the very least, it could revive someone on the verge of death.

Perhaps their childhood had been even harsher than he had imagined.

That thought suddenly crossed his mind.
