“Is this really the time to be surprised? Take him to the room and cover him in pheromones.”

“Does that mean…!”

“I’m not giving permission for marriage, so don’t get ahead of yourself and just go. The longer you delay, the more his mind will fall apart.”

As Damon finished speaking and turned his head, Oscar stared at him with a piercing gaze.

“Pascius, was it?”

“…Yes.”

“Right. You said you could only perceive this child’s pheromones, correct?”

“That’s correct.”

At his prompt reply, Damon let out a deep sigh. With a troubled expression, he said, “Go with them,” and pushed the three of them out of the room.

“And you two.”

The twins straightened up at the voice that sounded more commanding than the Emperor’s—or even Typhon’s. As they swallowed hard and looked up silently, Damon clasped his hands behind his back and spoke.

“Are you trying to help that child, or do you want to make him suffer more?”

The sharp-eyed twins swallowed again.

“We want to help.”

At their unwavering answer, Damon stroked his beard and said,

“Then get moving. If you’re even a little late, your younger brother will die.”

***

Everything was yellow in front of his eyes.

It was so painful that he couldn’t even tell if it was his body or his vision that was swaying.

It hurt.

Every breath came with searing heat, and the voices of people around him didn’t register at all.

Had he ever been in this much pain in his life?

No. He could swear—not even once. Not when he lived as Lee Eun-woo, nor during the past few years living as the physically frail Cielo.

Someone once said that those who’ve long battled illness can sense when they are about to die.

And now, Cielo felt exactly that.

‘I’m… dying…’

An indescribable pain numbed his brain.

As death drew near, terror began to flood his heart.

“N-no… I don’t… I don’t want to die… Agh!”

His murmuring stopped as an intense wave of pain surged again. Cielo clawed at his chest, nails digging in.

Only then did he realize it.

This was how the ‘Cielo’ in the novel had died too.

‘So I’m… like this too…’

Cielo shut his eyes tightly.

He didn’t want to die.

At some point without even realizing it, he had begun to yearn for life. Not only because he wished for Oscar’s happiness, but also because he wanted to stay here, with the two of them.

He had started to hold onto hope for a changing future. Maybe, just maybe, he too could survive.

But—

“Nngh… nghh… I don’t want to die…”

Is a death that has been fated truly inescapable?

“No… nghh… I don’t want to die again… Please, please save me…”

Cielo didn’t even know who he was pleading to, as he continued to sob and cry.

“Nghh… no… it hurts too much… I’ll just die. I want to die…”

It felt like needles were being driven into every single cell. If he could escape this pain through death, then…

Just as he thought that, a memory surfaced—a long stretch of silence. That sensation of endless darkness swallowing his entire being.

“No… I want to live… I don’t want to die… No, it hurts too much…”

At that moment, a large hand grabbed his.

As their fingers interlaced, Cielo cried out, saying it hurt.

“You’re not going to die. No—I won’t let you die.”

At the sound of that resolute voice, heavy pheromones poured over Cielo’s body.

But perhaps because the pain dulled his sense of smell, he couldn’t feel Ryan’s pheromones clearly.

Still gasping and writhing in agony, Cielo felt Oscar grab his other hand.

“There’s still so much we haven’t done together, Master.”

“Nghh… ahh…”

“I’m not ready to let you go yet.”

Murmuring quietly, Oscar released his own pheromones over Ryan’s, layering them atop Cielo.

As Oscar’s pheromones pressed down on Cielo’s body, his violet eyes gleamed.

“I have no intention of ever being ready, so you’re not going anywhere, Master.”
