It was a pitch-black night. The many distinguished guests attending the ball at the Imperial Palace, dressed in all their finery, flaunted themselves and showered one another with endless praise.

“I heard the news, madam. Her Majesty the Empress bestowed a pearl necklace upon your eldest daughter at her debutante ball?”

“Oh my. Hoho. I suppose word has traveled that far? Yes, that’s right. You cannot imagine what an honor it is, both for my daughter and our family. My eldest was so delighted that she even cried.”

“A debutante ball comes only once in a lifetime, and to receive a gift that day from someone as exalted as Her Majesty the Empress, she must have been overjoyed. I truly envy you, madam! Haah, if only my daughter might have such good fortune as well.”

“You are a woman blessed with good fortune, madam, so I am certain something even better will happen to you.”

“Do you really think so?”

“Of course. Don’t you know? I simply cannot lie!”

“Hoho. That’s right! I know that very well myself!”

The noblewomen hid their mouths behind their fans and burst into false laughter as they looked at each other. Even as they talked without pause, they never stopped sizing one another up.

After the women took stock of everything the other woman wore, from her clothes and accessories to her shoes, their shoulders would rise proudly whenever they realized that nothing on the other woman was more expensive than what they had on.

The ballroom was filled with more people ceaselessly appraising one another than people enjoying the festivities.

Meanwhile, in a corner of the ballroom, in a place the lights scarcely reached.

From a balcony by the wall where few people passed, a steady sound had been coming for some time.

“…Haa, ah! W-Wait…!”

“Hm?”

“W-wait, stop… Stop… Outside…”

“You want me to stop, hm? Are you sure?”

At the low voice beside his ear, the nape of Enoch’s neck reddened as he braced both hands against the window. Then, just as he had pleaded, the force pressing against him from behind disappeared.

The fingers that had been mercilessly thrusting into him below withdrew as well.

A firm hand caught and steadied Enoch when the strength nearly left his legs and he almost collapsed. Then it began touching his formal tailcoat again.

As the man fondled his body, Enoch let out ragged breaths. With dazed eyes, he watched Adelio loosen his cravat and undo the buttons of his shirt one by one.

His trousers had already been removed the moment they entered the balcony. Moving neither slowly nor quickly as he undid the buttons, Adelio stared intently at Enoch’s profile as Enoch panted heavily.

Enoch’s eyes were already glazed over. Adelio gave a quiet snort of laughter and patted his cheek.

“Sir Enoch. Try to pull yourself together. What will you do if you’re already like this? Hm?”

Enoch frowned as though annoyed and pushed his hand away.

“…Don’t touch me.”

“Sir Enoch. You keep telling me to stop and not to touch you…”

Adelio trailed off and pressed his lips to Enoch’s ear. Opening his mouth, he bit Enoch’s earlobe.

Startled, Enoch opened his mouth without meaning to. He shuddered, nearly letting a cry escape.

Fortunately, Adelio slipped his index finger into Enoch’s mouth, stifling Enoch’s scream before it could escape. The finger moved as it pleased, scraping ruthlessly against the roof of his mouth and his lips.

“Mmph, mmph!”

“Then why do you keep saying nothing but no? You’re hurting my feelings. …Now, can you stop telling me not to?”

“…Mmph!”

“You won’t say it anymore? Hmm, but what should I do… You lie as easily as you breathe, Sir Enoch, so how am I supposed to believe you?”

Adelio pushed two fingers a little deeper. As they came perilously close to his throat, Enoch made muffled, strained sounds.

His eyes reddening, Enoch gripped Adelio’s hand and shook his head again and again, but Adelio merely watched him with interest. Without showing the struggling Enoch the slightest mercy, he stirred his fingers freely inside his mouth.

Still trembling, Enoch soon took his hands off the window before him. He had noticed several people peering toward them through the gap in the curtains, apparently drawn by the rattling window.

Even if the window was locked and the curtains drawn… anyone who knew such things would understand what it meant to lock a balcony and close its curtains during a ball.
