By Some Unbelievable Twist, I Became the Villainess’s Older Brother - Chapter 17.2
What was she going to say now? Enoch reflexively clenched his fist and met her gaze.
The First Princess’s eyes were clear enough to seem transparent. But why? Goose bumps rose over Enoch’s body when their gazes met.
“What subject do you mean…?”
“Hmm… Ah, this would be good. Yes, for example… the fact that you are a ‘transmigrator’?”
Enoch stopped breathing. He tried to maintain an expressionless face as though nothing were amiss, but couldn’t tell whether he succeeded. His tense heartbeat thundered in his ears.
It pounded so violently that with the First Princess sitting nearby, he feared she might hear it. Enoch quickly lowered his gaze and took a deep breath.
He absolutely must not show his alarm. How in the world did the First Princess know he was a transmigrator?
No, that wasn’t it. What mattered now was why she suspected him of being one.
As he forced himself to think calmly, his head gradually cleared. Enoch lifted his gaze and met hers again.
Interest deepened in the First Princess’s eyes, which had been entirely serene until then.
“I do not understand what you mean this time either. A transmigrator? Do you mean that I am not ‘Enoch Laochenes’? Your words are rather strange, Your Highness.”
His voice emerged even calmer than expected. The First Princess watched him with amusement, then leaned comfortably against the back of the sofa.
“Who can say? Do you not understand those words better than anyone, Sir Enoch? Do you know whom the Founding Emperor killed first when he established the Empire?”
Enoch frowned and remained silent. The First Princess apparently had no intention of waiting for his answer and continued.
“The ‘Tyrant.’ He massacred hundreds and thousands, insisting that no one was greater than he. But he was not like that from the beginning. It was later discovered that someone had ‘possessed’ the Tyrant’s body, ruined the country, and killed countless people. Sir Enoch, anyone who has read a history book even once would know this, so you must know it already, do you not?”
“…Yes. I know.”
As she said, Enoch’s memories already contained the story. The First Princess was not wrong.
Unable to tolerate his brother’s reign of terror any longer, the Founding Emperor had personally brought the Tyrant down and had him executed.
As time passed, the temple revealed that the reason the Tyrant had behaved so was an unfamiliar being called a ‘transmigrator’.
In other words, he hadn’t ruined the country and killed people of his own will.
Naturally, the Imperial Family and the temple spread the account widely and emphasized the danger transmigrators represented. They claimed that doing so would allow others to recognize such dangerous beings as quickly as possible.
Consequently, just as the First Princess said, anyone who had read even one Imperial history book was bound to know about ‘transmigrators’. They would also know how much fear and terror the word inspired.
Of course, Enoch did not believe the First Princess had said it because she truly knew something. After all, the Tyrant had been caught because his behavior changed from the ordinary.
Enoch, by contrast, had quietly recuperated at home while copying the original ‘Enoch’s’ behavior. He even had the man’s memories, though incompletely. Unless she truly was a ‘god,’ she couldn’t possibly know that inside Enoch was another person’s soul. He answered calmly.
“But I do not understand what that has to do with me, Your Highness. I am not the transmigrator you described.”
The First Princess narrowed her eyes and tilted her head.
“Ah… In other words, Sir Enoch, you are saying that I have nothing but words. That I possess no proof you are a transmigrator?”
