Adelio’s gaze naturally shifted to Enoch, who sat stiffly beside him. He asked in a slightly petulant tone.

“What did you do there?”

“…?”

Hadn’t Adelio said they would have a serious, proper conversation? At the same question as before, Enoch merely blinked vacantly, looking as though he did not understand.

Irritated, Adelio pressed him for an answer.

“I asked what the two of you did.”

“That sounds a little strange. We merely had an ordinary conversation…”

“Ah, is that so? Then let me correct myself. What did you discuss, alone together?”

“……”

“Why are you still refusing to answer? Did you discuss something I mustn’t know?”

What did they do there? Like any pair of people who were not close, they exchanged one remark after another, probing each other, and that had been all…

But Enoch closed his mouth tightly again. Naturally, he couldn’t recount their conversation exactly as it had happened.

It was also awkward to answer carelessly. One misplaced word might lead to question after question, until Adelio ultimately learned that the First Princess had asked whether Enoch was a ‘transmigrator.’ And Adelio was the sort of man who would begin suspecting him merely upon hearing that word.

‘But still…’

Adelio’s expression and behavior were too frightening for Enoch to remain silent indefinitely. At the moment, Adelio looked as though it would be no surprise at all if one of Enoch’s limbs vanished on the spot.

Hadn’t he done something like that merely because Enoch hesitated a little moments ago? Enoch did not want to suffer such humiliation twice.

He was a thoroughly exhausting man. With a personality like this, who could possibly handle him? Surely no one in the world could.

Enoch clicked his tongue inwardly and glanced at Adelio’s expression. He was carefully considering what answer he ought to give when Adelio’s eyes abruptly turned cold.

As though urging the silent Enoch to answer, Adelio pulled his waist closer again and gripped it hard.

‘Urgh… This man?’

It was the very place his arm had tightly bound moments earlier. As though flaunting his strength, Adelio refused to relax the arm around Enoch’s waist.

Enoch’s face twisted sharply at the throbbing pain. Gritting his teeth, he met Adelio’s gaze.

“What did the First Princess say to you?”

“……”

“Sir Enoch.”

But he could hold Adelio’s gaze only for a moment. Unable to find an answer under the relentless questioning, Enoch slowly looked away.

Enoch found it frustrating too. Why couldn’t Adelio simply accept that they had talked and move on? Why did he keep demanding to know what had been said?

Of course, Adelio did not care. At the continuing silence, his face grew menacing.

He lightly tapped Enoch’s cheek with his long index finger. One side of his mouth curled sharply upward, perfectly reflecting his present mood.

“I’m terribly curious what the two of you discussed that has you so determined to keep quiet.”

“…It was nothing important.”

“Then why won’t you answer?”

“……”

“See? Again.”

Enoch lowered his head, his eyes darting as his mind raced.

…Would it not be alright to tell him everything except the part about being a transmigrator? At this rate, it seemed he would otherwise remain trapped in Adelio’s grasp.

Thinking so, Enoch glanced up at Adelio. Adelio growled as he added.

“An investigation will reveal everything, so you’d be wise to confess now, Sir Enoch.”

Adelio paused, then released a quiet sigh. Barely reining in his temper, he deliberately softened his expression and coaxed Enoch.

“Hm? Hurry.”

“……”

“Enoch.”

Adelio gently tapped Enoch’s waist where he held him tight against his side, as if tickling him, then whispered Enoch’s name beside his ear. Enoch’s shoulders flinched.

As Enoch reflexively pulled back, his body wavering, Adelio raised one brow as though displeased by the movement.
