By Some Unbelievable Twist, I Became the Villainess’s Older Brother - Chapter 28.2
Before long, a maid entered and set black tea and refreshments on the round table between them. Steam curled from the tea.
Adelio lifted his cup first, and when Enoch saw him, he reached for his own. Only after the tea appeared did Enoch realize that his mouth was dry and he was thirsty.
Before Enoch could take hold of the cup, however, Adelio stopped him. The hand that abruptly shot out nearly knocked it over.
Enoch stared at Adelio in disbelief. The tea was steaming hot. What if it spilled and burned him?
“Your Highness. If you dislike me, simply say so.”
“My, what a misunderstanding. I like you very much.”
With a smile crinkling his eyes, Adelio pushed the cup he held toward Enoch. Unable to understand the sudden gesture, Enoch merely blinked.
What was that supposed to mean? Why was he giving his own cup to someone else?
Adelio glanced at the cup he had offered, then motioned toward it with his chin.
“What are you doing? Drink.”
Enoch looked dubiously at the cup Adelio had given him. He had watched the man personally blow on the tea to cool it only moments ago, and now he was supposed to drink it…? Surely they were not close enough to share a cup so casually.
When Enoch only stared at the tea and made no move to pick it up, Adelio’s brow furrowed sharply.
Gasp. He might become spiteful again. Sensing Adelio’s mood at once, Enoch hurriedly picked up the cup and drank. As expected, the tea was not hot in the least.
“But Your Highness. Why did you…?”
“You dislike hot things.”
“I do?”
Enoch abruptly froze. I dislike hot things?
He blinked in confusion. Ever since childhood, he had eaten hot food without difficulty. If anything, he was bad with cold food.
He even disliked drinking cold water. As Enoch failed to answer, Adelio tilted his head, pulled Enoch’s cup toward himself, and continued.
“Didn’t you tell me when we were children that you hated anything hot?”
“……”
“Why? Has that changed already?”
Adelio’s eyes curved into a beautiful smile. Yet his expression suddenly made Enoch feel as though the man was testing him. He couldn’t tell whether that impression was true.
Enoch abruptly returned to his senses. Only then did he remember that the real ‘Enoch’ had habitually avoided hot food and preferred cold dishes. Though flustered, Enoch forced himself to appear calm.
…Wait. But how does this man know that? One would have to be truly close to know such a preference…
“You look surprised.”
“……”
Adelio gave a light snort and spoke with affected dignity.
“You may not know it, but I know quite a lot about you. For example, you hate sweets but love sour things. You have to hug an extra pillow when you sleep, and the vision in your left eye is worse than in your right…”
Adelio looked quite delighted as he spoke. Enoch’s expression, by contrast, grew steadily more doubtful with each word.
They had known each other for only a month. Therefore, Adelio’s knowing so much about him could only mean he had investigated Enoch’s background.
No matter how many times they had met as children, there was no possible way a few childhood meetings could have taught him all that.
Had he placed someone at Enoch’s side? Enoch looked at Adelio warily.
“We may have met several times as children, but even so, I never imagined Your Highness would know so much about me.”
Adelio raised the corners of his mouth.
“Well, what do you think? How could I know so much?”
“To be honest… I don’t know.”
“You already have some idea in your head, yet you pretend otherwise. That isn’t all I know either.”
