“I said no. Sigh, damn it.”

Kim Hyeongyu looked down at him with an incredulous face.

“Don’t you know that the more excited you get like that, the more suspicious you look?”

Instead of answering, Ha-on stood up from his spot. He took several deep breaths in and out. He indiscriminately ruffled his hair—which was stuck all over his face—with his fingers.

“Sigh…”

Only a long sigh came out. Right then, Kim Hyeongyu approached and perched on the corner of the bed.

“Since it turned out like this, just accept it.”

Ha-on scowled.

“Accept what.”

“That you confessed to Senior Jeongwon.”

Kim Hyeongyu raised his mobile phone.

“There’s even a saying that alcohol reveals true feelings. Even if you act like it isn’t, you said those kinds of words under the influence, so wouldn’t that mean it’s sincere?”

Thinking of the video Kim Hyeongyu had filmed yesterday made his stomach churn all on its own.

“It’s not like that.”

Ha-on shook his head violently.

“I said it’s not.”

“Then what is it?”

“It’s just… drunken antics. Drunken habits.”

His voice trembled slightly.

“It’s not something like a confession. And that person has someone else he’ll like… Never mind.”

Such a thing wasn’t for him to speak of carelessly. Even if he said it, it wasn’t something anyone would believe anyway.

Looking at Ha-on who shut his mouth, Kim Hyeongyu tilted his head slightly.

“It really seems like it though…”

“If you’re not going to believe me, don’t ask in the first place!”

Ha-on shouted in a surge of emotion, then scowled as if his throat were choked up.

He wanted to be alone right now, but because Kim Hyeongyu kept striking up conversations, he was annoyed to death.

Kim Hyeongyu stared at Ha-on for a moment before switching the topic.

“More than that, I mean Seojun.”

“Seojun? Cha Seojun?”

At the name he had forgotten for a moment, Ha-on reacted quickly.

“He said he was disappointed because you got so drunk like that yesterday. Have you called him?”

“Ah… that’s right. Indeed.”

The face of Cha Seojun, who had been overjoyed when they met yesterday, came to mind.

If it were normal times, Ha-on too would have welcomed Cha Seojun and shared many stories about how he had been doing in the meantime, but yesterday he wasn’t in his right mind for that.

Since all his attention was focused on Cha Jeongwon, that said it all, really.

“Yoon Ha-on is the same as ever. Give the guy a call.”

“Don’t emphasize it.”

It was just that he was distracted right now; it wasn’t that he had forgotten Cha Seojun.

“Speaking of which, do you know how hard it was for me in the middle to arrange a meeting between Seojun and you?”

Ha-on let out a faint sigh and looked up at Kim Hyeongyu.

“Do you have any idea how many things there are to care about when doing a surprise event?”

“Why even do a surprise?”

“I’m the one who made you two meet. So I’m taking responsibility, aren’t I?”

The college entrance art academy where he had worked through Kim Hyeongyu’s introduction.

While working there, he met Cha Seojun. And Cha Seojun had followed Ha-on exceptionally well.

So much so that he even wanted to have his career path consultation with Ha-on, who was merely an assistant instructor.

He was a student he had taken care of like that. Since he hadn’t been able to contact him even once in the meantime, he didn’t even know he had been accepted to the same university.

Ha-on felt a bit awkward.

“Should I suggest getting a meal together?”

Now that he was back to his senses, the ways Cha Seojun used to follow him around quite well came to mind one by one. Yesterday’s meeting was a bit regretful.

“Come to think of it, that guy Cha Seojun.”

He had come to the pub yesterday together with Cha Jeongwon.

Normally, since a student he hadn’t seen for a while appeared right before his eyes as a real freshman, he would have been overjoyed and delighted. It was just that his attention had been stolen by the person who happened to come along, Cha Jeongwon, so he couldn’t welcome him properly.

While clutching the duvet again, Ha-on suddenly raised his head.

“Between Cha Seojun and Senior Jeongwon… what are they, exactly?”

“What do you mean, what?”

Kim Hyeongyu spoke with a matter-of-fact face.

“They’re cousins.”

“…Cousins?”

“Yeah.”

Kim Hyeongyu nodded his head.

Yesterday’s scene of the two standing side by side was drawn again.

Straight bridge of the nose. Distinct facial features.

There were definitely similarities.

“…I did think they resembled each other. So that was it.”

Ha-on muttered softly.

“What was it?”

“Their faces.”

Ha-on spoke as if begrudgingly admitting it.

“The nose, eyes, and facial lines are similar. They’re both handsome, though.”

At the end of his words, he added grumblingly for no reason.

“But their personalities are complete opposites.”

“Is that so?”

“It’s like copying and pasting the exterior, but inserting the wrong personality file, so to speak.”

Hearing those words, Kim Hyeongyu burst into laughter.

“Hey, your expression is really mean.”

Even while laughing, he nodded his head.

“Bit I admit it. When the two stand together, it’s exactly that kind of feeling.”

Ha-on burrowed back into the duvet.

Kim Hyeongyu added casually:

“He missed you a lot.”

***

Only after Kim Hyeongyu went out did his surroundings grow quiet.

While feeling like he could live a little now, the thoughts he had postponed until a moment ago flooded in all at once as soon as he was left alone.
