Seeing that, Ha-on grew worried belatedly. This guy hated wrapping bandages in the first place, so did he perhaps take it off by himself?

“The doctor took it off, so there’s no need to dig into it.”

Aha! If so, then…

“Senior, fighting.”

Ha-on held up a thumb.

Cha Jeongwon picked up the first dart.

Then he took a short breath in and out like a sigh. After that, he lightly threw the dart.

The dart flew through the air and pierced one balloon with precision. As the balloon popped, thin pieces scattered onto the ground.

The staff quickly approached and picked up the folded paper inside the popped balloon.

“Uh, this is…”

After taking a short pause, he read it right away.

“It’s a dud. I’ll give you some candy.”

A lollipop was held in Ha-on’s hand. Although the color of the wrapper was pretty, it was true that losing steam from the very first round was disappointing.

“Ayy, the start is just warming up.”

Ha-on spoke lively to boost Cha Jeongwon’s spirits.

“Something will come out next. I have a feeling.”

“Nonsense with your feelings.”

Cha Jeongwon retorted with a dry voice.

On the other hand, his eyes briefly lingered on the tips of Ha-on’s fingers, which were continuously fidgeting with the wrapper, before pulling away.

Although he threw just one, Cha Jeongwon’s expression didn’t change at all.

Soon after, he grabbed the second dart.

This time, too, it was a neat posture. There was not a single bit of unnecessary tension in his shoulder, arm, or wrist.

With the exact same trajectory and the exact same speed, the dart flew through the air.

Again, a popping sound rang out. As the balloon popped, colorful pieces scattered downward, and a paper slip dropped out from inside with a click.

“This time…”

The staff unfolded the paper and wore an awkward smile. As if flustered, he bowed his head slightly, then soon read the result written on the slip in a clear voice.

“Here is a candy.”

One more candy landed on top of Ha-on’s palm.

“Senior, aren’t you hitting them way too well?”

Ha-on spoke in a bright tone as if joking on purpose. Every time a balloon popped, he thought the hand felt delightfully good, but the winning luck itself felt disastrous.

“It’s originally like this.”

Cha Jeongwon’s answer was short and plain. No, far from plain, it was dry.

“What do you mean by ‘originally’?”

When Ha-on asked subtly, Cha Jeongwon retorted without batting an eye.

“Since I’m the one throwing, only duds will come out. Don’t expect anything.”

Those words stabbed oddly deep inside his chest. Because he was so calm, Ha-on couldn’t tell if it was really a joke.

If it was a joke, it was a bit much, and if it was serious, it was a lonely thing to say.

“Then… we can just eat them flavor by flavor.”

Ha-on retorted nonchalantly. Cha Jeongwon watched Ha-on before picking up the third dart.

This time, Ha-on leaned his body toward Cha Jeongwon. They were a little closer now. Within the same space, it was a distance where breath could be felt more distinctly.

“Please just pop the balloons this time, too.”

He tried to raise the mood by talking up fortune even by force, but the words that returned were no different, as expected.

“Pick the flavor you want to eat.”

And the dart was thrown without a single moment of hesitation.

The flying trajectory was straight just like before, and the balloon popped cleanly with the same sound.

As the pieces scattered, the staff reflexively bent down. He searched for the paper between the pieces of the popped balloon and picked it up.

“Uh…”

This time, the staff checked their reactions for a bit longer. That alone seemed to give away the answer already.

“Which flavor of candy should I give you?”

The third dud.

It was an expected answer, but on the other hand, it was also a moment where expectation eroded. As much as Cha Jeongwon stayed still, Ha-on felt more disappointed, so he struck up a conversation by force.

“Senior, you know these things originally don’t come out easily, right? Unless someone is ridiculously unlucky, they don’t come out. Why else would lotteries exist in the world? Also, the probability of winning the lottery compared to getting struck by lightning…”

“You talk too much.”

It was a calm response. It was a face that really looked completely unfazed.

Wow… He really is a human embodiment of resignation.

What could he do to chase away his misfortune, even if just for a moment?

It was right when Ha-on was muttering to himself.

The moment Cha Jeongwon grabbed the fourth dart, Ha-on’s body leaned forward slightly because he bumped into a person passing by.

The sound of an apology could be heard, but Ha-on didn’t even have time to answer. He flailed around so as not to fall over.

“Uh, uh!”

Then, reflexively, he grabbed the arm right next to him. There was no need to say whose arm that was.

It was Cha Jeongwon’s arm.

His muscles twitched for a moment. While Ha-on was regaining his balance, the distance between the two closed significantly.
