How the Villainous Consort Avoids His Death Ending - Chapter 29.2
How could he survive in this harsh world, trusting people so easily? No wonder he dies like that in the original work… I became seriously worried about Tristan’s future.
“Though his judgment of people is poor.”
It felt like an odd comment tagged onto the end of a compliment. I turned my head sharply to glare at Tristan, and he gently folded the corners of his long eyes. Was he trying to play the charm card with a sly smile…?
“Everett and Myer? I hardly think he has a good eye in that regard.”
“It’s Sawyer. No, why is Sawyer being brought up here?”
“That one leaves a bad impression somehow. It feels as if he has a fateful enmity with me. Even the way he looked at you was unusual.”
He can be eerily perceptive at times. I would make sure nothing like that happens in this life, but considering Sawyer’s actions in the original, Tristan’s caution made sense.
However, for me, it felt utterly unfair that he even mentioned Sawyer or Everett. I hate that kind of fortune-telling… When will I ever shake that label off?
“The retainers have not fully relaxed yet, but there is no need for concern. They have spent so long in isolated Hezekia with us alone. Naturally, they lack flexibility.”
“Yes, well.”
“Still, their attitude is gradually changing. The day they trust you fully will come soon.”
Changing? I was skeptical, but I nodded lightly. After all, the weather was clear, I had found a decent product, and even Tristan seemed to be in a good mood for once.
From afar, children were holding snacks and bursting into laughter. A few of the little ones were running around noisily. All over the streets, people were cheerfully enjoying the warm weather.
It was a day that seemed as if peaceful times would last forever. So, for once, trusting Tristan did not feel wrong. I smiled faintly at him and slowly walked along with him.
❖ ❖ ❖
Unable to win against Tristan’s stubbornness, I returned to the quarters that day to rest. The next day and the day after, I could not leave my room as if I were a prisoner. To make matters worse, our search for Lirisia bulbs was making no progress.
Finally, when I was about to take matters into my own hands, it happened.
“Your Grace, I have found it! A farm where we can purchase Lirisia bulbs in bulk!”
Sir Gehardt appeared, visibly excited, reporting to Tristan. It was not a shop trading with the Eastern Continent, but a nearby farm directly cultivating Lirisia. His voice trembled with excitement.
Still, I felt something was off.
“You mean they grew Lirisia in bulk at a farm?”
“Yes. I saw it with my own eyes. One side of the field was completely covered with them.”
“That many…?”
“Yes, that’s right. Since it is wholesale, the price is considerably cheaper than what the flower shops were asking before. Haha, even if things go poorly in the Northern Continent, we won’t suffer major losses.”
“Where is this farm? We should go see it together with Your Grace.”
“Yes? Ah, of course. For a transaction contract, the Grand Consort would need to go personally…”
Seeing doubt on my face, Gehardt’s expression subtly stiffened. He hesitated and asked,
“Grand Consort, do you not trust me?”
“That is not what I mean. It is just… Sir Mildred mentioned that it is a difficult plant to cultivate. So I never thought there would be a farm here, let alone outside the Eastern Continent.”
“Well, Sir Mildred visited the Sar Empire years ago. Since it can be sold even in the heart of Belforte, cultivation must have already started…”
As Gehardt trailed off, Tristan lightly gestured and gave the order.
“Depart immediately. Seeing it firsthand will settle everything.”
In the end, I followed Tristan and Gehardt to the farm. The destination was in the suburbs, about half a day’s walk from Belforte.
