No one blamed me. Instead, Tristan would silently come to stand beside me whenever he had the chance.

“You have been through a lot.”

He spoke quietly.

“I know better than anyone how much effort and heart the Grand Consort put into this. It is all right, Ruellin. There is no need to dwell on it. We can look for another opportunity.”

I nodded faintly, but the words would not come easily. It felt as though something were stuck in my throat.

“I believe we will find a path again before long.”

His calm voice weighed heavily on my heart. I nodded weakly and lowered my head.

Only the innocent Constantine bounced around with an excited expression.

“Grand Duke, Grand Duke. Are we going back home now? I want to hurry and see Wilhelm and everyone else!”

“…Yes, Your Highness.”

I wonder if there will still be a home left when we return, little rice cake. Holding Constantine in my arms with a heavy heart, I thought about it. At this rate, losing the Grand Duke’s residence felt inevitable.

“We will be able to go home.”

But I could not afford to give up like this. I had to pull myself together immediately.

If there was any method I could use, I had to try it. Right?

Right, System?

.

.

.

“System. How did things end up like this, huh?”

After taking Constantine back to his cabin, I called for the System first. The System displayed text with a stern attitude.

Please be informed that the user bears responsibility for all of their actions. Do not blame the System.

“When did I ever blame you? That is not what I meant.”

When I denied it with widened eyes as if asking what it was talking about, the System finally seemed relieved. Getting nervous over nothing. Clicking my tongue inwardly, I gently coaxed the System.

“System. Still, things have come to this point, so you are not exactly feeling at ease either, right?”

You clearly stated that you are not blaming the System.

“No, no. Why are you so impatient? I am not blaming you, I am asking for help. Our friend System might have something it can do, right? Maybe drop a helpful item or something.”

……

I briefly considered begging to check the original story on credit again, but stopped myself. It had not been long since I cleared the outstanding balance while finishing the Let Us Become Goodwill event, and more importantly, it did not seem like looking at the original story would solve the current situation anyway.

Since nothing particular came to mind for me either, I had no choice but to cling to the System. Smiling gently, I began to wheedle it.

“Think about it. At this rate, the Grand Duke’s household is going bankrupt. Hezekia will fall into Everett’s hands more than ten years earlier than in the original story. If that happens, do you think I will survive? The miserable death ending is right in front of us. Am I wrong?”

……That is not incorrect, but……

The System replied reluctantly. I grinned and continued.

“Right? And we are a community of shared fate. If I die, then what happens to you? You will be shattered without a physical form and drift forever as cosmic dust.”

The System never had a physical form to begin with……

“Sure, fine. Anyway, that soul? Mind? Software? That will disappear too. You are facing a formatting crisis right now. Do you like that? You do not, right? So help me out a bit. There has to be some way.”

……

……

……

The System displayed ellipses several times, as if it were thinking hard. I was extremely anxious inside, but pretended to be calm and waited patiently.

At last, the System displayed text.

There is a method……

“A method?”

[System update in progress.]

(No response)

And then it crashed.

“……”

Are you kidding me? Are you seriously kidding me?

My head throbbed in disbelief. Fine. It was my fault for expecting anything. I pressed down hard on the bulging vein on my forehead with my fingertips. Perhaps because I had been so tense and then suddenly deflated, I could barely breathe properly.

“Seriously, what am I supposed to do? There has to be something I can do.”

I muttered helplessly. Then, strangely enough, barely one minute after crashing, the System suddenly chimed cheerfully.
