The fleet steadily gathered profits, and Hezekia was finally beginning to establish a foundation. The leisurely, prosperous life I had always dreamed of was within reach. If I could secure a comfortable retirement without worrying about survival, I could proceed with a safe divorce immediately…… No, the divorce…… I did not know how it would go…… But did I really have to do it…… Hezekia had finally become somewhat comfortable……

“So, fuck, hurry up and get up.”

Lost in despair, I muttered curses, and my thoughts kept spiraling. The moisture that had gathered in the corners of my eyes fell and ran down my cheeks.

Then, it happened.

Tristan’s eyelids twitched ever so slightly. I held my breath and stared intently at him.

Soon, his long eyelashes fluttered, and his tightly shut eyelids slowly lifted. His deep blue eyes traced through the dimness and gradually focused on me.

“Tristan?”

I sprang from my chair and hurriedly placed my hand on his cheek. The warm skin pressed softly against my palm. Tristan drew a shaky breath and tried to move his chapped lips.

“The Grand Consort…… your mouth is rough.”

“…….”

Since when has he been awake……

I stared blankly at Tristan, unable to move even a fingertip. My mind was empty, no thoughts coming at all.

“Everett and Viscount Elsworth……”

Tristan managed to speak with difficulty. I snapped back to reality and hurriedly lowered my head toward him.

“They will not need to be worried about it. They will not act recklessly.”

Even though the incident had occurred in broad daylight, there were no proper witnesses or evidence to hold them accountable. Yet now that Tristan had been seriously injured, unless they intended to turn Hezekia completely hostile, they could not recklessly act again.

Tristan slowly shook his head. As I tried to warn him not to move, he barely moved his lips.

“Elsworth…… he is…… not a father.”

“……Yes, Your Highness.”

“So you must not return.”

“…….”

His deeply hoarse voice reached my ears. My heart plummeted and then began pounding fiercely. I stared at him in a daze, whispering quietly.

“……Where Your Highness is, that is where I must return.”

As the words left my mouth, my body moved before I realized it.

My chest leaned forward, my head coming close enough to feel his breath. Tristan’s eyes widened in surprise for a moment, but as if entranced, I lowered my head, covering one of his eyes with my hand.

My dry skin brushed against his lips. The rising heat suddenly pressed in, flowing into the gaps between our breaths. His chapped lips were strangely warm and soft. It felt like the first sweet water after a long thirst or a gentle, refreshing rain.

I do not know how long it has passed. When I finally came back to my senses and opened my eyes, Tristan’s breath shifted low and softly.

His lips slowly moved toward mine and pressed gently against them. Without a moment’s hesitation, a large hand cradled the back of my head.

His warm tongue slid in without hesitation, spreading slowly into my mouth. Our breaths mingled as our tongues entwined. Our warmth merged softly.

His tongue brushed my palate and teased my own. Our breaths intermingled, long strands of saliva exchanged. The subtle scent of musk and damp skin. A clear, fresh scent, like grass swaying in the wind, spread from the tip of my tongue to my lips and throughout my body, sinking deep inside me.

The impulsive kiss was hot, painful, and sweet.

When our lips finally parted, I shivered for a moment and opened my eyes slightly.

I met Tristan’s gaze. For a brief moment, we were both unsure what to do. His lips moved slightly again.

Color returned little by little to his well-shaped lips, and the corners lifted faintly into a gentle curve. His long eyes softened in shape.

Feeling his breath slowly weaken again, I held Tristan’s hand tightly.

“……It is all right now. You will heal soon. Now…… it is really all right.”

“Yes…….”

Tristan answered softly and then closed his eyes. He slowly drifted back into a deep, peaceful sleep.
