❖ ❖ ❖

I woke with a start to the blaring sound of the system alarm. When I opened my eyes, a thick arm was tightly wrapped around my waist. And then…

[Unexpected Event Completion Notification]

☆Hit Cycle Ambush!☆ The event has been forcibly terminated due to the user’s failure to restrain their desires.

Despite repeated warnings, the user remained loyal to instinct and  ♥penalties♥  have been applied.

‘Alright, well…’

It had come. I had already prepared myself, and since this was the third time, the system’s notification window did not even surprise me. How painful would it be this time? Hopefully I won’t cough up blood like before. I waited indifferently for the guidance to continue.

[♥Instinct Control Failure Penalty♥: ‘Status Ailment’ lasts one month]

Details: Hemoptysis, tinnitus, headache, high fever, chills, coma

Special Notes: The penalty will automatically lift after one month.

“ ….”

Even so, a whole month seemed excessive… But arguing with the system would have done no good.

The system informs the user that sufficient warnings have been issued multiple times!

The penalty is a disaster brought upon the user by ignoring repeated warnings!

‘Fine, fine. It was just a thought, only a thought.’

I calmed the system down and turned my head. I stared quietly at Tristan, who slept peacefully, then whispered softly.

“ Tristan. I’m going to be in some pain for a while, but it’s not your fault, so don’t blame yourself too much.”

If anything, it was partly Tristan’s fault—after all, this time he had struck first—but mesmerized by his face, I chose to silently accept the penalty. What else could I do?

Sensing something, Tristan’s long eyelashes twitched. But when he opened his eyes, I was already drenched in cold sweat, my body slumped and limp.

“Ruellin, Ruellin!”

I felt Tristan’s urgent hands lift me as I lost consciousness. One of the penalty effects was coma. Surely I wouldn’t pass out now and wake up a month later, right?

❖ ❖ ❖

Even while enduring the month-long penalty, the voyage continued smoothly. I had been lying in bed the entire time, barely able to move, until I finally managed to recover enough to take short walks. By then, the fleet had already entered the waters near Hezekia.

“We should be arriving soon, right?”

Leaning against the railing and looking down at the sea, I asked, and Tristan nodded. I carefully adjusted his cloak draped over my shoulders and pulled the hood snugly over my head before speaking.

“We will reach the harbor in about a week. I will summon a physician as soon as we arrive at the Grand Consort’s residence.”

“No need. You are already well.”

“No, the skill of the Hezekia physician may not be enough. I will send someone to Belforte to find a doctor there.”

Tristan spoke casually as if it were nothing, even though any physician from Hezekia, who had served the Grand Consort’s family for generations, would have been outraged. His face, however, remained dark. It was understandable—the system had enforced the full month of penalties without mercy, and the sheer amount of blood I had vomited during that time had been considerable.

But now the month was over, and the pain had ended. I placed my hand on Tristan’s arm, gently reassuring him.

“ You are truly fine now. You have eaten well and have not coughed up blood, correct?”

“ You still look pale. Aren’t you still sweating?”

“ …That is just because it is too warm.”

It was not sweat from illness but from heat. I had layered Tristan’s wool cloak over my fur cloak. Even though the weather was cold, I could not help sweating.

Still, being cared for felt good. And especially when the person caring for me was Tristan. I smiled, letting my eyes curl slightly as I stole a glance at him. His face was as immaculate and beautiful as always, seemingly shining more than usual today. Actually, it was that way yesterday. The day before that. Last week. Even a month ago.

Why does he get punished for this??? It just doesn’t make sense to me. He’s spending his heat with an alpha (that he’s married to btw), why is that so wrong to the system? The system is honestly the most annoying part of this story. It makes no sense
