I Became the Tyrant's Beloved Omega - Chapter 14.2
Even in the days when they shared a room, Aiden had never felt this way. Yet even though nothing had changed since then, his heart pounded as though it were broken. Feeling like he was committing a grave sin, the very flustered Aiden slowly backed away, left Noah’s room, and ran into his own room, and it was then.
“Where on earth have you been at this late hour?”
Vicar’s figure standing in the middle of the room came into view.
“Ah… Vicar, what brings you to my room? I just washed up in the communal bath.”
“Is that so?”
Vicar looked at Aiden with suspicious eyes. But soon Vicar withdrew his sharp gaze toward Aiden and, in a somehow urgent voice, urged him on.
“There’s someone who has come looking for you.”
“F-for me?”
At Vicar’s unexpected words, Aiden’s eyes went wide.
“When you first came to our monastery, was there an object you carried on your person?”
“An object? The clothes I wore then, I threw away. Hmm… other than that, there’s only one necklace.”
“Can you show it to me?”
Aiden took out the necklace he had carelessly shoved deep into a desk drawer. Standing beside the candlelight, Vicar examined the pendant hanging from the necklace closely.
“Who did you receive this from?”
In Aiden’s mind, where many of his childhood memories had been erased, the image of his mother, who had always lain ill, surfaced.
“I don’t remember well, but probably… my mother?”
Aiden answered like it was nothing, but the chilling fear and unbearable pain he had felt as a child came back to him. In that instant his brow furrowed on its own.
“You must go to the abbot’s office right now. Hurry and follow me.”
Vicar opened the door and stepped into the hallway, and ordered Aiden in a low voice.
“Who on earth has come looking for me at this late hour? You’ll have to tell me that.”
Aiden replied coldly with an expression completely different from when he talked with Noah.
“Stop the chatter and follow me quickly!”
“No.”
“Aiden!”
At Aiden’s refusal to move, the somehow anxious Vicar shouted loudly. When a loud voice rang out in the monastery, which was always quiet to the point of silence, startled monks and trainees opened their doors and poked their faces out.
“There’s no time to squabble like this. Hurry and follow me.”
“I can’t follow without knowing anything.”
If the person who had come to the monastery was Aiden’s biological father, then Aiden had no reason at all to see him.
“That person is not someone you get to decide whether to see or not.”
“It’s been eight years since I was abandoned in the Betrani Forest. So who is it that comes looking for me now?”
The image of Aiden’s father’s face had faintly returned, recalling the helpless frustration of his childhood, engraved like a brand. At the same time, he shuddered violently, his whole body rejecting him. Clenching his fist, Aiden firmly refused Vicar’s order.
“Do you know who has come looking for you?”
“I’ll hear it and decide whether to go.”
“Haah….”
It was then. In the hallway, buzzing with the commotion of the middle of the night, someone with the abbot leading the way slowly revealed himself. The strange man, from the moment he stepped into the room, stared at Aiden piercingly.
“Aiden, what are you doing? Not paying your respects to His Majesty the Emperor?”
“…What?”
Vicar hid his flustered expression and urged Aiden. But the Emperor, who could wait no longer, grabbed Aiden’s hand and spoke with a deeply moved expression.
“Are you Aiden?”
The Emperor, still holding Aiden’s hand, began to examine him from head to toe. The Emperor had no trouble finding in Aiden the living image of his sister.
“You look exactly like Zoe did as a child.”
