“Your Majesty, you should sleep a little more…”

Louis, worried about the often frail Emperor, tried to dissuade him. But the Emperor held up his palm to him and stopped his action. Louis stepped back a pace and looked at the Emperor’s pallid complexion with a worried face. Having finished his preparations with the help of a manservant and a maid, the Emperor hurriedly made his way to Aiden’s room.

“They said it takes at least half a month to get from here to the capital, Kalis.”

“……”

“It might be a little cold at night. So pack this too.”

“……”

A clear voice rang out pleasantly through the gap in the open door. But Aiden did not say a single word to Noah, who was personally packing his things. Though the door was slightly open, the Emperor knocked and waited for an answer.

“…Yes, come in.”

It was Aiden’s room, but Noah answered in place of Aiden, who kept his mouth firmly shut. The abbot opened the door and stepped aside so the Emperor could enter the room.

“Aiden.”

“……”

The Emperor called Aiden, but he gave no answer. Noah quickly stepped in between the two, who stood in tense confrontation, and answered in his place.

“I greet His Majesty the Emperor.”

“So you are Noah.”

“Yes. I was packing Aiden’s things.”

“…I see.”

Mysterious violet eyes, beautiful like they would draw you in, and lustrous golden hair, fine, fair skin, a slender and delicate body. The Emperor was certain at a glance that Noah was an omega. His brow furrowed slightly.

“Can you leave with Aiden today?”

“Ah… y-yes.”

Noah, unable to answer immediately at the schedule moving faster than expected, replied a beat late. The tips of Noah’s fingers trembled faintly as he packed Aiden’s things. Aiden, noticing Noah’s unease, gripped Noah’s hand tightly.

“Noah.”

“Hm?”

“You have to send letters, for sure. And don’t forget that you promised to come see me.”

“Of course.”

When he looked at the Emperor, Aiden’s gaze was as sharp and cold as the chill of midwinter. But his gaze toward that lowly omega was warm like a puppy following its mother, and sparkled like stars in the night sky. The Emperor, whose headache had grown so severe that his temples throbbed, left the room and gave Louis a firm order.

“We will depart before the morning is over. Sir Louis, help Aiden finish his preparations.”

“Understood.”

At the Emperor’s order, the one whose heart sank was Noah. He had planned to ask Tommy to pack food that Aiden liked. Noah was about to hurry toward the dining hall.

“Noah.”

Aiden grabbed the hem of Noah’s clothes and would not let go.

“Aiden, the food you like…”

“No, I don’t need it. I just want to stay with Noah.”

Noah turned his back on Aiden so as not to be caught crying. Then he pointlessly rearranged the things in the trunk. Aiden no longer pestered Noah either, and just stared blankly at his back.

Even though he moved his hands slowly, time was passing relentlessly.

“You must come out now.”

Louis approached Aiden and reminded him once more that it was time to leave. Noah approached Aiden, who stood rooted like a rock even though the time to leave was imminent. Then he took Aiden’s hand and slowly began to walk.

And so the two of them, without a word, reached the two carriages standing in front of the monastery. The door of the carriage lined up behind the most splendid one at the very front opened.

“Get in.”

“…Can’t Noah come too?”

“No.”

“Noah.”

“My dream is to become a monk. So I have to stay at the monastery.”

The closer the moment of parting drew, the more composed Noah seemed to become. Aiden no longer acted stubborn at Noah’s attitude of having made up his mind to send him away. He climbed weakly into the carriage. Noah and the other people of the monastery stepped back a few paces so the carriage could depart.

“Depart!”

At Louis’s command, the carriage slowly began to move.
