In the Name of God - Chapter 63.2
When I turned my gaze, I saw him looking at me with a kind expression that felt like it could bewitch anyone.
“Whatever the method, it’s my job to calm you down if you’re suffering. Because we’re partners.”
I quietly stared into Lee Sunho’s straightforward eyes.
What exactly does “partner” mean to this guy?
Unless he’s some kind of Giving Tree, he must surely want something in return.
‘Even if he doesn’t, he has to.’
Otherwise, I’d feel uncomfortable. I might be used to giving to others without expecting anything, but receiving without repayment felt utterly awkward.
With the cup in one hand, I reached toward Lee Sunho’s head with the other. As if knowing my creaking arm wouldn’t rise easily, Lee Sunho leaned down and offered his head himself. Looking at him like this, there’s really no difference between him and Echo.
I gently stroked Lee Sunho’s hair.
On my end, I’m doing this subconsciously because I find the younger Lee Sunho commendable and I’m grateful, but from his perspective, he shouldn’t exactly welcome a man of similar age stroking his head. Nevertheless, Lee Sunho quietly let me do it, and he even wore an expression that looked like he was enjoying it.
Seeing that, I realized once again what a good kid he is.
“Tell me if there’s anything you want.”
I suppose that’s why I want to do even more for him.
“Something I want? If you would just come to me whenever you’re in pain…”
“Not that. Something you truly desire.”
I felt Lee Sunho flinch.
As I thought, there is something he wants from me. I don’t know what it is, but I can tell it’s important enough to make his eyes waver for a moment.
“Tell me. If it’s something I can grant, I will.”
I pulled my hand away and looked Lee Sunho straight in the eye; he laughed as if he were in a difficult spot.
“Wasn’t the wish coupon already finished?”
“A new one was just created.”
I made it because you’re being good and pretty.
‘So hurry up and say it. I’ll grant it quickly and settle things cleanly.’
To get rid of this feeling of being indebted, the best thing was for Lee Sunho to use the wish right here and now. At the very least, Lee Sunho would ask for something I could manage, so it wouldn’t be much of a burden.
“I can clearly see you want something from me, so hurry and say it. If it’s something I can do, I’ll do it immediately.”
However, unlike last time, Lee Sunho didn’t say his wish so readily.
“…I’ll use this wish coupon slowly.”
“Why?”
“Because I feel like I should.”
Where did those wavering eyes go? Now he’s grinning with a touch of playfulness.
“If something like yesterday happens again, will you give me a wish coupon then, too?”
“I’m going to be careful so that this never happens again, so don’t even dream about it.”
“That’s a shame.”
Whether that serious murmur about it being a shame was real or not, I couldn’t tell anymore.
Regardless, since Lee Sunho was laughing nonchalantly and we had set a reciprocal condition like a wish coupon, my mind felt much more at ease. It felt like a clean trade.
‘Is even this because I’ve “Adapted” to the situation?’
It’s truly a monstrous skill.
Around the time I had nearly finished my tea.
Lee Sunho spoke as if he had just remembered. It felt like he had intentionally waited until I was almost done drinking.
“Now that I think about it, I got a call from the Clan Leader’s secretary. It was a call for you, but you weren’t in any condition to pick up, so I took it instead.”
“What kind of contact?”
“I’m not sure. They said they needed to speak with you directly. They asked for you to call whenever you have time and then hung up.”
Contact from the Clan Leader through a secretary.
If it was a call meant only for me and not both of us, I could easily guess the reason.
“I see. Thanks for telling me.”
I drained the last of the tea in one gulp, handed the empty cup to Lee Sunho, and asked him to give me a moment of privacy. Since Lee Sunho didn’t know about the deal between me and the Clan Leader, I preferred him not to hear the call if possible.
Lee Sunho left the room, mentioning that he’d made porridge so we should eat together once the call was over. Only then did I pick up the phone from the nightstand.
-Has the Clan Leader already obtained the information?
Echo, who had been curled up quietly until now, smirking as he watched me and Lee Sunho, spoke up.
“It would be nice if that were the case, but…”
Trailing off, I called the last incoming number on the phone. The other party picked up instantly, as if they had been waiting for me to call.
-Yes, this is Han Seo-rin.
It was a voice I recognized and a name I had heard.
She is one of Clan Leader Woo Hye-ran’s secretaries.
“Hello, this is Seong Do-yoon. I heard you contacted me.”
As I spoke calmly, Han Seo-rin replied immediately like a machine.
-It seems a lot happened in a short span of time. You’ve worked hard.
It seemed the events regarding the Disaster Zone had already been reported to the Clan Leader.
-The Clan Leader would like to meet you in person to apologize for this incident.
“To apologize… that must mean there’s other business as well.”
I could guess what the “other business” was. It likely concerned the two pieces of information I had requested.
I was about to add that I’d stop by tomorrow, but Han Seo-rin was a step faster.
-Along with the request for you to make time tomorrow if possible, she left a message.
“A message?”
At Han Seo-rin’s following words, I couldn’t help but widen my eyes.
-Regarding the only god of this world… She says she wants to hear directly how much Seong Do-yoon knows.
