“When Do‑yoon set information regarding the Holy Lands as a condition, I actually didn’t think much of it. I just thought, why is a kid who wasn’t even born when the Holy Lands were unfolding so interested in that sort of thing? It’s unique… that was about it, and I intended to just roughly compile some things and hand them over.”

Considering her position as the Clan Master of Black Tail, it was obvious even without looking how high the quality of a “rough compilation” would be, but for now, I decided to listen.

“My thoughts aren’t much different now. However, it bothered me that Do‑yoon is also tracking information regarding the ‘Black Saint’.”

Woo Hye‑ran raised the corners of her mouth with meaningful eyes.

“The ‘Black Saint’ was the only individual capable of communicating with the only god, and the vanguard of the heroes who saved this world from destruction. But from what I hear, there are rumors that the only god created Holy Lands all over the world and bestowed all kinds of blessings solely for that person’s sake. Not because he took pity on all of us.”

To be honest, I felt a private sting.

Just as Woo Hye‑ran said, I hadn’t entertained grand thoughts like unconditionally saving this world from ruin or wanting to keep everyone alive.

I had simply exhausted all my strength to fulfill the desire for “survival” for the character I chose, my apostle.

Even if I felt guilty, I didn’t feel particularly inclined to refute her.

“…You aren’t surprised?”

Woo Hye‑ran laughed out loud and muttered, “As expected.”

I stared blankly at Woo Hye‑ran’s reaction, finding it strange, and then I realized it late.

The preceding content was information everyone knew well enough to be in textbooks, but no matter how much I searched through Seong Do‑yoon’s memories, nothing came up regarding the “rumor” Woo Hye‑ran mentioned.

The content suggested that the only god, who supposedly devoted himself to the world, actually loved one human being partially.

If it were people who knew nothing, it wouldn’t be strange for them to laugh it off saying, “Oh, come on, no way,” or get serious and ask, “Where are you getting this nonsense?”

Since every person in this world knew of the only god’s existence, believed in him, and loved him, they would be bound to show a predetermined reaction to a “tilted affection” that was no different from disparaging him.

But I showed no reaction at all.

Because I am the one who knows better than anyone else that it is the truth.

Woo Hye‑ran gazed interestingly at me as I stood my ground, meeting her eyes with an expressionless face, and muttered.

“If it weren’t for the special provisions in the contract, I would have bullied you until you cried and talked.”

Those words sounded so much like a rascal that I unintentionally flinched, my fingertips curling into a shiver.

It was a relief that I had specified in the special provisions that “regarding the two pieces of information, Seong Do‑yoon must be treated as a client.”

Because the more one is used to buying and selling information, the less likely they are to do something as arrogant as investigating the client in reverse.

“Well, fine.”

Woo Hye‑ran, who gave a smirk, leaned forward. Since there was a table between us, she didn’t get excessively close, but her serious gaze was quite visible.

“Actually, the reason I called Do‑yoon today is to deliver a mission.”

“A mission?”

“It seems Do‑yoon knows quite a bit more than I thought. Since you’re so interested in the Holy Lands, I thought it wouldn’t be bad to give you a chance to investigate one yourself.”

Only then did I realize Woo Hye‑ran was bringing up the true purpose of this meeting.

“Abnormal signs have been detected in some Holy Lands starting two days ago. What has been revealed so far are minor distortions in the Holy Land’s wavelength or the monster spawn rate in dungeons being faster than usual, but the problem is that those changes seem to be gradually worsening. Because of this, the Association has sent out an official cooperation request to all large-scale clans.”

Two days ago was the day Lee Sunho and I entered the new dungeon that appeared in the Disaster Zone.

Is it a coincidence that the dates overlap?

“The large clans that accepted the cooperation request will be dispatched in pairs to the problematic Holy Lands. So, this time our clan is scheduled to be dispatched toward Daejeon along with another large clan…”

Woo Hye‑ran, who trailed off for a moment, laughed awkwardly.

“It looks like the clan we’ll be moving with will be Horizon.”

I understood why Woo Hye‑ran trailed off.

‘It makes sense since it’s known that Seong Do‑wan and I still have an incredibly bad relationship.’

Rumors were rampant that Seong Do‑wan appearing at the promotion exam site was also a warning to his bottom-tier brother, fearing he might bring shame to his face. In fact, until he met the “Darkened Seong Do‑yoon” in person, Seong Do‑wan himself had intended to stop the exam with that kind of concept.

When I showed no particular reaction upon hearing the story, Woo Hye‑ran spoke as if to reassure me.

“Still, there shouldn’t be a need to worry. A clan as big as Horizon wouldn’t be idle enough to send a big shot for a Holy Land investigation.”

That was true.

To be dispatched for a simple regional investigation, one mid-level leader and three or four lower clan members to handle the practical work should be enough.

This was especially true for a massive clan like Horizon.

There was no reason or justification to specifically deploy high-level personnel just to collect basic information related to a Holy Land.

Believing that, I accepted the mission nonchalantly.

***

But… the prediction went spectacularly wrong.

“I am Seong Do‑wan, the leader of the investigation team for the ‘Horizon’ clan.”

Seeing the giant of a man requesting a handshake from our investigation team leader, I had no choice but to secretly press my hand to my forehead.
