“It is difficult to explain clearly, but my hunch is likely right. If you stay attached to me like this, you will get caught up in things like this again. So…”

I looked up at Lee Sunho, but he placed his hand on my chest. His hand, which had been warm until a moment ago, had turned chillingly cold in the meantime.

While I paused, Lee Sunho spoke first.

“If you’re trying to push me away, it’s already too late. No matter what you say, I will remain your partner.”

“But…”

“Do you really think you’ll be okay without me?”

As soon as those words ended, a hot sensation spread rapidly, starting from Lee Sunho’s hand. No, to be precise, the body temperature that had been suppressed by Lee Sunho’s ability until now had awakened all at once.

In the blink of an eye, my vision blurred and a painful headache arrived as if my brain were melting. My chest felt stifled, as if a massive boulder had been placed upon it. The breath flowing from my mouth became ragged instantly.

However, what came even more strongly was the pain in both of my hands. Thanks to Lee Sunho, I had felt almost no pain in my hands—to the point of numbness—until now, but as soon as he withdrew his ability, an intense agony surged that made me grit my teeth.

Having felt almost nothing of the distress from the high fever and the pain in my hands, accepting them all at once now made it feel even more agonizing.

“Ugh…”

I swallowed a groan and my tightly shut lips trembled. Lee Sunho pressed down on my chest as I shook, unable to even move a finger. A weight was added to my already stifled chest, making breathing even more difficult.

“This is your original state. It’s so hard that even speaking is a struggle, your brain won’t work because of the fever, and your shattered hands hurt so much you won’t be able to sleep.”

“This kind of thing… haah… I can endure it as much as I need to…”

“What if you get hurt even more than this in the future? What if a time comes when it’s so hard you just want to die?”

At those words, the corners of my mouth turned up of their own accord.

In the past, I had already experienced a wretched state several times over, far beyond anything Lee Sunho could imagine. There were times I wailed for death amidst cruel torture, and times my body and soul were torn to pieces before being stitched back together and thrown onto the battlefield.

Painful experiences can make a person fearful, but they also create a standard of sorts.

This kind of thing is nothing compared to back then. This much is less than that time. It has to be at least this much to even be compared to then.

I could pride myself on having a higher threshold for physical pain than anyone. So, even if a time came where I had to feel even greater pain as Lee Sunho suggested, it didn’t matter.

“I don’t care… It’s better than you getting hurt…”

Because I am very used to things like being in pain.

Lee Sunho said nothing. He wiped the smile from his face and looked down at me with an unreadable gaze, and only after a long time passed did he lean his body forward.

Lee Sunho’s two arms softly embraced my body.

A familiar comfort rapidly permeated my entire being. My stifled breath calmed, my dizzy head cleared a bit, and my blurry eyes regained focus as if a clouded lens had been removed. The pain in both hands also subsided quickly, becoming dull as if it had never happened.

‘He’s too kind.’

It was a situation where he could have been angry, yet he didn’t raise his voice once, and he couldn’t even hold out for long before pouring his ability back into me. When a guy like this tries to use his ability to threaten me, it’s just cute.

I heard the sound of Lee Sunho, who was still holding me, letting out a deep sigh.

“Do-yoon. …Seong Do-yoon.”

He called my name repeatedly and spoke to me alone.

“I can originally only see one thing. Should I say I can only focus on one thing? No, I myself don’t want to care about anything other than that one thing.”

“What are you talking about, for a guy who is a multi-ability user…”

“In a way, I obtained all that because of that one thing.”

Listening to Lee Sunho’s weak lament, I was inwardly surprised. He is a guy who rarely talks about himself and was always composed, so it was never common for him to reveal his inner thoughts like this.

“It’s the same between people. Once I give my heart to one person, that’s it.”

Strength gradually entered Lee Sunho’s weak voice.

“If you want to send me to someone else, you can. Change your partner as much as you like. If that’s what you want, I’ll do it.”

Lee Sunho’s lips touched my ear. His breath subtly tickled my ear.

“But, in the end, we will come back to this spot. Over and over and over again…”

For a moment, a sneer lingered in Lee Sunho’s voice.

“Because I’m going to make it that way.”

I faltered as a chill ran through me, but Lee Sunho raised his head. His alien eyes curved gloomily.

“Are you still going to throw me away?”
