Idol of the Heavenly One - Chapter 10.2
“Did you always do planks?”
“No? Jae-heon hyung taught me a year ago.”
“Baek Jae-heon?”
“Yes. I used to always come in second place in dance, you know? But Jae-heon hyung told me to strengthen my core, so I started planking then, and now I’m first in dance. Everyone says my lines in dancing have changed.”
“…….”
So Baek Jae-heon… originally, what was it… a pro… what? A professional meddler? I thought he only gave advice to me, but apparently, he told Kwon Ji-hak about it a year ago too.
“How long was Baek Jae-heon a trainee?”
“One year, hyung.”
“One year?”
“Yes. He appeared at the Saturday public audition a year ago and got accepted directly. The competition back then was 30,000 to 1.”
“What’s the Saturday public audition, and what’s ‘GOT’?”
“Wow. Director Yoo said you study well. Guess it’s true. The Saturday public audition is a public audition held on Saturdays, and ‘GOT’ means ‘Greatest’ or ‘God.’”
Ah, God. At school, whenever the kids said some sports player was a ‘GOT,’ I always thought, “Goat?” But apparently, it meant God.
But a Saturday public audition? That was odd. It didn’t match the info I knew about Baek Jae-heon.
Surely, Ji-eun said he was kidnapped when he was thirteen on his way home from school. So CZ Entertainment supposedly street-cast him, asking if he wanted to be an entertainer.
But here, it was different. Baek Jae-heon wasn’t kidnapped at thirteen by CZ. Still, he came on his own last year to pursue being an entertainer. That must mean his debut with YEARZ is a constant rule, unbroken even in a restarted world.
Well, that was reassuring. At least Baek Jae-heon is around.
“But no one’s coming?”
Looking at the clock, it was past eleven, but no one had arrived at the practice room. I looked puzzled, and Ji-hak explained that since yesterday was the end-of-month evaluation, many wouldn’t come today.
“You didn’t take the end-of-month evaluation, right, hyung?”
“No.”
“Usually, for your first month, you’re exempt.”
“You took it, Ji-hak?”
“Yes. I took it yesterday too! Usually it’s all dance, but yesterday it was vocal, and my scores were really good!”
“That’s good. But you came to practice today?”
“Practice is practice, so I had to come!”
Ji-hak’s passion was impressive. After an end-of-month evaluation, most would probably slack off for a day, but even at a young age, he came without skipping, showing admirable diligence.
“Here, like this! Think of pulling your chest forward.”
“Liiike… this?”
“Oh! Hyung, that felt real just now!”
Even though he probably wanted to practice his own stuff, he kept pointing out what I was lacking and helping me. I felt he was genuinely kind-hearted.
“Hyung, I need the bathroom…!”
“I need to go… Ah, yeah. You go first.”
“No! You go first, hyung! I’m not in a hurry!”
“Thanks.”
Seeing Ji-hak smile like a puppy, I felt like he was a grandchild I didn’t have. How could a kid have such a good heart? I could tell even without meeting his parents that they had raised him well.
“Go Hee-min?”
Proudly smiling, I was heading to the bathroom when I heard someone nearby say a familiar name.
“…….”
I naturally slowed down. No, I actually moved toward the direction of that name.
“The ugly guy really thinks he can get into the debut lineup just because he sings a little well.”
