Idol of the Heavenly One - Chapter 111.1
This AAM Awards featured a special stage, and we spent the entire month practicing until dawn for it. We studied a setup that fans would enjoy. Honestly, at first, I thought, “How are we going to do this?” It was a song from a senior girl group and the theme itself was challenging.
If we made a mistake, even the senior members could look ridiculous, so we had to practice hard and make it look good.
Good looking? Right. This special stage was a remake of a song from a senior girl group. I found it especially strange to perform this song as a remake. I first heard this song in my early thirties. Back then, it was extremely popular. And now, after reincarnating, I am performing a remake of it.
The stylists also prepared the costumes thoroughly. This song was famous for its leopard print outfits at the time, so all the members wore costumes incorporating leopard prints. Joo I-rip wore a cropped jacket with leopard print on the collar and pockets. Go Hee-min wore a scarf and shoes with leopard prints. Lee Soonbok wore light denim pants faintly printed with leopard patterns. Baek Jae-heon wore a black shirt with a leopard print tie. Kwon Ji-hak wore a dark brown jacket with leopard print subtly printed in parts. The outfits were trendy and neat because each person’s outfit mixed the prints in moderation.
But why was I like this?
“Why am I the only one wearing a leopard shirt?”
I was the only one wearing a bold leopard shirt. Even from a distance, I stood out. I kept asking the stylist if it was too much and whether it looked okay.
“Myeong-hyeon, you need to stand out, so you have to wear that.”
“Why do I need to stand out?”
“You are in charge of the killing part.”
Even though I was in charge of the killing part, I worried it might look ridiculous. It almost felt gangster-like. I worried about looking strange on stage.
“Hyung, take a picture of me.”
I handed my phone to the manager and asked him to take a picture to check whether I looked strange.
“I’ll take it for you.”
Then Baek Jae-heon grabbed the phone, claiming he would take it himself. I showed him the parts we had practiced. Baek Jae-heon moved around like a real camera director while taking the video. The members behind him kept laughing hard. I wondered what was so funny. I ignored it and continued the semi-rehearsal with Baek Jae-heon in front.
Then I watched the result sitting next to Baek Jae-heon. The outfit stood out, but because I was in the killing part as Joo I-rip said, it did not look over the top.
“It’s okay.”
“Yeah. It looks good.”
“As long as it looks good.”
The members behind us continued laughing hard. I glanced and saw Joo I-rip, Go Hee-min, and Kwon Ji-hak huddled together, holding a camcorder and pointing it at us.
“Are you filming us?”
I asked. Go Hee-min laughed so hard that tears formed, and he fell backward. Joo I-rip and Kwon Ji-hak were no different. I had no idea what was so funny. That camcorder was meant for behind-the-scenes footage, but could they really use this scene?
“You laughing is funnier.”
Lee Soonbok quietly whispered this. I agreed with him. I thought their laughter was funnier than the situation.
– YEARZ special stage, please prepare!
At that moment, the staff notified us to be ready. After a final check, the members and I headed to the stage.
We moved to the center with all lights off and posed for the start. When the retro electro-pop intro began, the arena erupted with cheers.
I went first for the introduction, and the cheers grew louder. After finishing the killing part in the chorus, Go Hee-min unusually took the rap part, coordinating with Baek Jae-heon and Lee Soonbok’s vocal parts. Although it was a girl group song, the high notes were not demanding, making the part distribution possible.
Perhaps for this reason, the audience’s cheers were louder than usual. The song’s original concept was cute and sexy, but Lee Soonbok and Baek Jae-heon were deadly sexy, making the song sound different and exciting.
