Kyu-jin pretended to beg for forgiveness. Understandably so—on the day we entered high school, kids who saw my parents nearly fainted in shock.

According to them, my mother looked like a super-slim, elegant beauty, while my father looked like a rugged wild man. They thought some gangster had walked into the school. But I suppose it was inevitable that they saw him that way. My father practiced judo, so he had a huge build and a naturally intimidating face. And since that day was my entrance ceremony, he had even put on a suit for the first time in his life, which must have doubled the fear, making him look like some scary gangster boss.

“Our Myeong-hyeon is so lucky to take after his mother.”

My father always said it was a blessing that I looked just like my mother. But I didn’t quite agree.

“I think it would’ve been nice to resemble you too, Father. You look cool.”

Honestly, I would have been happy to take after either one of them. Finding little traces of my parents in myself was always such a happy, comforting thing.

“Our Myeong-hyeon, how can you have such a grown-up way of thinking! You’re too precious!”

My father was so touched by my words that he cried. Well, he cried all the time despite his size, so I’d grown used to it by now.

“So then, who is this Ji Cheonmyeong person really?”

If it’s not you, then who is it? Kyu-jin asked with a look like that.

“How would I know?”

I replied indifferently, like a middle-aged office worker dismissing some ridiculous civil complaint that isn’t worth a response.

“Hey, friend!”

“Ah.”

 “You’re not getting away today.”

But that scammer came looking for me again. As I was leaving through the school gates after class to head to the study room, there he was, waiting again. This time he even had a lackey with him who looked like he could run fast.

Oh no. Seriously?

“Are you by any chance the Ji Cheonmyeong we’re looking for?”

 “Yes.”

“Why would I be Ji Cheonmyeong?”

“Didn’t you say yesterday your name was Ji Cheonmyeong?”

“I said my name was Ji Myeong-hyeon.”

“Oh… really? I must have misheard. I got too excited.”

Sure enough, just like Kyu-jin had said, the Ji Cheonmyeong this scammer was looking for was indeed me. But seriously, how could someone confuse those names? Isn’t it just common sense to realize that “Ji Cheonmyeong” sounds strange as a real person’s name?

“So then, why exactly are you looking for me?”

Whether I was Ji Myeong-hyeon or Ji Cheonmyeong, that wasn’t the point—I just wanted to know why this person was looking for me. Do I look like an easy scam target or something?

“We’ve been looking for a Ji Cheonmyeong, and with your face and even your name, we thought it was heaven’s will. Honestly, it felt like getting struck by lightning yesterday.”

I had thought he was just some scammer trying to swindle money, but no—he turned out to be a full-on cult recruiter.

“I’m calling the police.”

Without hesitation, I took out my phone. I was way too busy now to listen to nonsense like this. Since I had to prepare for the possibility of not winning the lottery, I needed to study even harder and get a job early to make a ton of money.

“We really are from CZ Entertainment! We were hanging around in front of here yesterday, and a teacher reported us to the police—we had to show our employee badges and business cards!”

The man yelled, looking desperate, as he pulled out his employee ID and business card, insisting I look. I stepped back, politely asking him not to touch me, then took the card and ID to examine carefully.

[CZ ENT. Rookie Development Team 3 – Team Leader Yoo Myeong-jin]

Neither the badge nor the business card looked fake. But then why would CZ Entertainment be after me?

“Our company is about to debut a new boy group.”

When I gave him a look that clearly said, Why would a big-name agency like yours be looking for me?, the scammer—or rather, Yoo Myeong-jin, Team Leader of Rookie Development Team 3 at CZ Entertainment—got straight to the point.

“I know.”

If it was a boy group about to debut, then the timing meant it had to be YEARZ—the idol group Lee Ji-eun had transferred to after leaving DIA. But what did that have to do with me?

“You know?”

“No.”

“You just said you know……”

“I said, ‘Ah, is that so?’”

“Tsk… Anyway. It’s just that you have a face that would look perfect with our kids. And your name, Ji Cheonmyeong, is just perfect too.”

So what did he expect me to do about it? Was he about to say something ridiculous like asking me to debut as an idol?

“Friend, would you be interested in trying to become an idol?”

Wait. He was serious?
