Idol of the Heavenly One - Chapter 34.2
“Noona.”
“Hm?”
“Where’s the mask?”
“Oh, right. I think I left the box of masks at the shop. There weren’t any.”
“Ah……”
But fate feels like it keeps getting in my way. How could all those overflowing masks just disappear entirely? Well, it cannot be helped. If it comes down to it, I can just cover my face with some other clothing.
“YEARZ, please head back to the singers’ section right away!”
Until the last stage, we had to stay in the singers’ section, so I went back to the main arena with the members.
“Go inside.”
“Huh?”
“I said go inside.”
Baek Jae-heon was about to do something crazy again. Instead of sitting where the company assigned us, he told me to go further inside while he would sit on the edge. Go Hee-min was already sitting in what used to be Baek Jae-heon’s seat, not caring what we did.
“No, I’ll get scolded.”
“I don’t care.”
“I said I’ll be the one scolded……”
“Then get scolded.”
This guy really has no manners at all. I wanted to snap back and ask what he thought he was doing, but the sharp look in Baek Jae-heon’s eyes made me think it would be better to just take the scolding from the manager. So I sat down in what used to be Go Hee-min’s seat.
The moment I sat, my shoulders stiffened. I really did feel like I might get scolded by the company, or maybe the fans would say something. And yet… strangely, it did not feel entirely unpleasant.
When I glanced at Baek Jae-heon next to me, he was sitting with his legs crossed, his upper body slightly leaned forward, his arm resting on his knee and his chin propped on his hand. It did not look like a pose meant to impress, but even so, that indifferent expression looked like a scene out of a photoshoot.
He must have felt my gaze, because he looked straight back at me, his eyes carrying a kind of satisfied, lazy air, like a well-fed lion. It made my chest itch strangely.
‘He really is insane…’
There was no way to explain that itchy feeling, so I quickly looked away. I was about to cross my arms and grumble inwardly, when his arm brushed against mine.
“……Hey.”
“What.”
“……Move over a little.”
“I don’t want to.”
The corners of Baek Jae-heon’s eyes lifted slightly as if feigning innocence. He was not even smiling, but it still felt like he was teasing me. Almost like in this space, there was only the two of us.
Kyaaaa—!
At that moment, cheers suddenly erupted from the audience. Startled, I quickly looked at the monitor to see what had happened, who had appeared. But to my shock, what the monitor showed was me.
More precisely, me and Baek Jae-heon.
The camera was aimed at the singers’ section, and between the fans waving their light sticks, it caught us both sitting side by side.
Alarmed, I instinctively leaned away to separate my arm from his, but without a backrest, my weight shifted and I nearly toppled backward.
As if waiting for it, Baek Jae-heon casually raised his arm and supported my back, steadying me.
“You’ll hurt yourself.”
Kyaaaaaa—!!!
The fans’ cheers exploded, far louder than before. The flood of thousands of screams all at once left my ears ringing.
My face burned instantly. The heat spread all the way to my ears. If I bowed my head, it would look suspicious. If I lifted it, I would feel exposed. So I froze, my head tilted awkwardly halfway back.
“……”
It was lucky my pounding heartbeat was drowned out by the noise, because it felt like the sound would reach the seat right next to me. This was driving me crazy.
Baek Jae-heon, sitting beside me, looked completely unfazed. He turned his head toward the stage as if nothing had happened at all. That calm face only made my heart drop harder. I bit my lip for no reason and fixed my gaze on the floor. I was sure my whole face was completely red.
