With my manager’s arm supporting me, I stepped into the hallway. The noise from the gym still filled my ears. Other idols were laughing and chatting, names were being called in the distance, and announcements for the next match echoed across the space. All those sounds dragged me back into reality. But even within that noise, I could only walk blankly, unable to think of anything.

My manager placed a steadying hand on my back and said,

“Once you get to the dorm, take some medicine and sleep it off. You’ll feel better tomorrow. Just rest for today. If you’re still sick by tomorrow, we’ll get you an IV drip.”

I didn’t think I was in bad enough shape to need an IV, but I simply nodded.

In the end, though, by the next day, I couldn’t even lift myself out of bed because my fever was burning up. I really did end up getting an IV. I didn’t even know if the person the manager brought in was a doctor or a nurse, but they were inserting a needle into my arm. Through my hazy consciousness, I could feel the members taking turns coming into the room to check on me.

From what I vaguely heard, they said my body had been overworked from the heavy schedule. They called it a bad cold and fatigue. But I knew better. This wasn’t the kind of sickness that could be given a medical name.

This was an age-old illness passed down by word of mouth. Love sickness.

After holding it in for sixty-nine years, it was finally bursting out all at once. How could it not hurt like this? That was the only explanation that made sense to me. Otherwise, there was no reason I should have collapsed before Go Hee-min. He was always skinnier and weaker than I was, yet he was fine while I was the one lying down.

“If you ask me, Ji Myeong-hyeon’s got love sickness.”

Apparently, Go Hee-min thought the same thing because he suddenly declared it right in front of the other members sitting in the room.

“What is he talking about now?”

Kwon Ji-hak spoke in disgust, and Joo I-rip let out a laugh of disbelief before asking,

“What made you come up with something that ridiculous?”

Go Hee-min gave that shameless look of his, the one that said, “You poor fools don’t know anything,” and answered with complete ease,

“He’s got someone he likes.”

“What are you talking about? There’s no one he’d like.”

When Joo I-rip scoffed, Go Hee-min continued with an even more smug tone,

“I’m a hundred percent sure. He asked me himself. If I had someone I liked.”

“Maybe he just asked because he was curious if someone like you had ever dated before?”

Kwon Ji-hak smirked as he added that comment.

“Hey, what did you just say?”

“Sorry.”

“Hey, Ji Myeong-hyeon. Is that true?”

The members’ attention instantly turned to me.

I felt my fever rise again, the one that had barely gone down. That bastard, Go Hee-min. I had asked him thinking he wouldn’t say anything, but I didn’t expect him to blurt it out in front of everyone. I wanted to deny it, but I didn’t have the strength to argue.

“I’m telling you, it’s true. He’s got a crush for the first time in nineteen years, and now he’s lovesick.”

“What, seriously…?”

The members erupted into murmurs.

“Myeong-hyeon hyung’s really busy, huh. Finding people, finding love…”

Kwon Ji-hak’s teasing almost made me snap, but I couldn’t even say he was wrong. I let out a long sigh instead. Even if I did get upset, I was in no condition to do anything about it. The IV had helped a bit, but I still felt weak and heavy.

“Everyone, leave. Let him rest.”

A deep, firm voice broke through the chatter. It was Baek Jae-heon, sitting on his own bed. He ordered the members out so I could rest.

The others glanced at one another, then stood up without arguing and slowly filed out of the room. The last to leave, Kwon Ji-hak, paused at the door and shot me a sly grin. Then he was gone, and the room fell silent.

I exhaled softly with my eyes closed.

But that quiet didn’t last.

The bedsprings creaked lightly. Baek Jae-heon had stood and was walking toward me.

Without a word, he placed the back of his hand on my forehead, as if checking my temperature. Even in my hazy state, I turned my head away, wanting to avoid his touch. He was the very cause of my illness, and his touch only made it worse.

But Baek Jae-heon’s hand was persistent. The more I turned, the more he followed. His fingers brushed the side of my cheek, then grazed the curve of my ear.

“Crush?”

What tickled my ear even more than his touch was his low voice.

“Or is it a boyfriend?”
