His expression was heavy, and his gestures were rough. It was clear the conversation inside was about his father—probably about money, or perhaps how to deal with the matter legally.

I watched from a distance, then slowly lowered my gaze to my hands.

The sensation of brushing against that gray hoodie yesterday came back to me. Cold, coarse, and chilling to the touch. Yet at the same time, a faint memory overlapped—of a small child clutching my hand while crying.

‘Mister… are you sad too, because you’re alone like me?’

That trembling voice, the warmth of that tiny hand, and then a sudden flash of realization that struck me like lightning.

Wait a moment…

“Mister, can’t you come again tomorrow?”

Could it be… was that child really Baek Jae-heon? Even by age, the timing lined up almost perfectly. Was it true? Could it really be him, and not just a coincidence of similar circumstances?

My heart began to pound wildly, harder and harder, until I could no longer control it.

If—just if—that child really was Baek Jae-heon, then did he already know who I was? But how could that be possible? The me from then and the me now are different in age, in circumstances, in everything…

Then suddenly, his words from before began replaying in my mind, one after another.

‘The moment you realize that what you know about reality is different.’

‘Endless doubt will take hold of you.’

‘You don’t know who I am or what I’m thinking.’

‘I’ve been alone for too long.’

‘I wish it weren’t you.’

‘I’m glad.’

‘Why, does it feel like something you saw in a dream?’

‘Think carefully.’

It felt as though the puzzle pieces I had forced myself to ignore were finally falling into place, one by one.

My fingers trembled as I fixed my eyes on Baek Jae-heon through the glass wall in front of me. He still looked calm.

As if he had been through this kind of thing before, as if it were nothing. Yet at the same time, his face looked unbearably tired.

The meeting room door opened.

Baek Jae-heon was the first to step out. The directors stayed behind, still talking in low voices. Their shadows stretched long and wavered under the light, flickering against the glass.

Baek Jae-heon began walking toward me.

His pace wasn’t fast, but every step was sure. Slowly, steadily, he came closer. I tried to suppress the emotions that surged in my chest.

I tried to keep my composure, but with every step he took toward me, my control began to falter. Still, I forced myself to stay composed.

But the moment I faced him up close, the restraint I had barely maintained collapsed all at once, like a line of falling dominoes.

The reason he could endure his father’s verbal abuse yesterday must have been because he had already lived through it before. That must be why he could act so unaffected now.

He was the child who had met me in a previous life, the one who truly became an entertainer just as I had told him he would. Even in this life, where he likely never met me, he still chose the same path, accepting all its exhaustion and pain.

Was it pride I felt, or sorrow? Seeing his face stirred up feelings I couldn’t even define. Baek Jae-heon had met the past me—and now, the present me. Though our bodies were different, he had recognized me without a doubt.

So when I saw his face up close, I couldn’t hold it in any longer.

“…Do you know me?”

The words escaped my lips before I could stop them.

Baek Jae-heon’s eyes wavered for only a brief second. Then he let out a faint, dry laugh and opened his mouth, about to ask what I meant—

“Do you know me or not?”

I asked again. My voice trembled, the words breaking at the edges. The second question came out between uneven breaths. It wasn’t just a question anymore—it was a desperate cry, a mix of fear and yearning to be certain.

At last, Baek Jae-heon looked straight at me.

There was no surprise or confusion in his eyes. Only calm acceptance, as if he already knew what I was asking, as if he had been expecting this moment for a long time.

After a long silence, he spoke. His voice was quiet and gentle, yet steady.

“There’s somewhere I want to go together.”

“…”

“You’ll come with me, right?”
