Idol of the Heavenly One - Chapter 8.2
“Hey, I told you I’m the hyung.”
“Maybe Myeong-hyeon-hyung lived abroad?”
“Is that it?”
“Oh? Jae-heon-hyung, when did you get here? Are you doing dance practice today?”
“…No.”
I ignored the chatter behind me as best I could.
***
This was bad. I thought “dance practice until eight” just meant we’d run through some idol song choreography, but we had been doing nothing but body waves for over an hour. The problem was—
“Is that really the best you can do?”
“……”
“It’s not that you’re stiff, but… it feels oddly clunky.”
I couldn’t get the wave right. They said I had to make it feel like I was lifting from my hips and sending it upward, but I just couldn’t grasp what that was supposed to feel like.
“Well, let’s stop the wave for now. Tomorrow, we’ll work on isolation. Good job today.”
“Yes. Thank you.”
Even though he said “for now,” the instructor had the look of someone who’d given up on me when it came to waves. I felt bad about that, so I just smiled awkwardly before heading toward the elevator Go Hee-min had told me about earlier.
“Oh, you’re going to vocal practice too?”
Baek Jae-heon was there. He was standing in front of the elevator, leaning against the wall and looking at his phone, not even pressing the button. So I assumed he was also going to vocal practice at eight and spoke to him.
“No.”
He gave me a quick sidelong glance, then answered cynically. Was he born with that slightly rude face? Joo I-rip and Kwon Ji-hak had been so nice earlier—didn’t the company bother to teach this guy anything about manners?
“Okay.”
Well, whatever. He had the kind of face that was guaranteed to debut anyway. There was no point in picking a fight or giving him advice—better to just play it cool and wait for the elevator.
“Build your core strength.”
“Huh?”
“Then your wave will get better.”
Out of nowhere, Jae-heon gave me that advice. Almost like he’d been watching my practice and knew exactly what my problem was. I just stared at him blankly, wondering why he was even telling me this.
“…Ah.”
“It’s 7:58.”
“What?”
“You’re gonna get chewed out by Go Hee-min.”
“Oh…!”
I quickly grabbed my phone — sure enough, it was 7:58. He’d told me not to be late, and here I was about to be.
Ding—
Thankfully, the elevator arrived just in time. I rushed in, then looked back at Jae-heon. He was still staring at his phone, totally uninterested.
“Uh… thanks.”
“……”
He didn’t even nod at my thanks, just kept looking at his phone. He still seemed kind of rude, but since he’d pointed out what I was doing wrong and warned me about the time, it didn’t feel malicious. He just seemed naturally cynical.
Once the elevator doors closed, I immediately opened my search bar.
[How to build core strength]
Then, just like Jae-heon said, I started looking up how to strengthen my core. Pilates? In both my past and current life, the only “exercise” I’d ever done was breathing, so this was my first time hearing about core training.
“Plank?”
It looked like a pretty simple bodyweight exercise. I opened my notepad and wrote it down, thinking I should try it a few times when I got home later.
