They said that now that I had woken up, my family was on their way. Hearing that made my chest tighten. I missed them so much. Up until now, part of me had kept wondering, “Are they really my family?” I couldn’t shake that doubt, feeling as if this life and body were borrowed. But now, after brushing against the edge of death again, it became strangely clear.

They were not someone else’s family. They were truly my family. My parents. My home.

The door opened, and my mom and dad came in. Both looked like they hadn’t slept for days. My mom grabbed me instantly and cried endlessly. My dad pulled both of us into his arms.

“Mom……”

When the words slipped out, I couldn’t hold back either, and I cried. Being held by my parents, all the relief in the world welled up. I had thought I could willingly die when stabbed, but waking up and realizing I had survived was overwhelming. Feeling that I might never have felt this embrace again made my head spin. My mom gently stroked my hair. The warmth of her hand made everything real.

I was alive.

I had truly returned alive.

“When you ran away from the dojo, I should have dragged you back and taught you more self-defense.”

“I still managed to avoid vital spots this time.”

The moment of emotion was brief. My father told me that if I had practiced more at the dojo when I was young, I could have avoided the stab altogether. I spent time making excuses, saying that I had actually dodged it. Of course, I had not intentionally avoided vital spots. I just blocked the attack blindly, and luckily the knife missed my heart.

Ah, the woman, unsurprisingly, was immediately caught by the police after stabbing me. I heard that even while being taken away, she screamed for Baek Jae-heon. That gave me goosebumps. Normally, people who stab someone don’t call for someone else while being apprehended. Her behavior was terrifying.

She had also posted a lot online, and through that, I found information linked to Lee Soonbok’s scandal. It was apparently that woman who had uploaded the photos. Truly unbelievable behavior.

“Now, you should go too.”

After my parents left, only the members and the manager remained in the hospital room. I told the members, who had almost lost a week of vacation, to go rest. They insisted on staying until my discharge, but I firmly told them to go rest quickly. We had a comeback to prepare for after vacation.

Gradually, the members left the room one by one. Of course, Baek Jae-heon stayed. Even when the members told him to leave so I could rest, he looked at me like a lost puppy. Finally, I said, “You stay a little while,” and he was ecstatic. The other members left quickly, calling him clingy.

I glanced at the manager and suggested he go rest too. He refused, saying he would stay until my discharge, just in case. Ah, I wanted to talk with Baek Jae-heon alone.

“Hyung. Then come back for dinner, and I’ll swap with you. I’ll stay here the whole time.”

“Oh, really?”

Baek Jae-heon must have sensed my wish because he persuaded the manager and sent him off. Now, the two of us were left in the hospital room.

“Finally, just the two of us.”

I murmured, and Baek Jae-heon gazed at me silently. His face showed a flood of emotions: guilt, apology, resentment, longing, gratitude. I silently pulled his head close and hugged him. He buried his face in my shoulder and held me tightly.

“……Crying again?”

His shoulder felt warm. I laughed awkwardly, thinking he might be crying again, and Baek Jae-heon pulled away at the sound of my laugh.

“Don’t laugh.”

“Ah, sorry. You’re just so cute.”

“Really…… don’t laugh. I’m not funny.”

I laughed genuinely at that. But the surgical site hurt so much that I grimaced and exhaled a breathy laugh, which made Baek Jae-heon look at me with a slightly resentful face.
