“Your Majesty, look who has come.”

Behind Karla, the young knight of the Dazbel family, Ventari, appeared.

Reyna could hardly believe that Ventari had come.

“…My goodness. Who is this really?”

“Miss. No, Your Majesty.”

Green eyes resembling hers and dark brown hair. When she last saw him, he still had a boyish look, but now he carried the full presence of a knight.

Reyna stared blankly as Ventari’s gently curved eyes instinctively mirrored hers. It felt like a dream.

“I never imagined you would come. How long has it been?”

“It has been five years since you left the Crimson Citadel to marry the king, so this is the first time we meet again.”

“My goodness.”

A faint smile appeared on Reyna’s lips. Karla quietly swallowed her emotion at the rare sight of Reyna smiling after so long.

Then Reyna, curious, noticed something unusual on Ventari’s face and paused.

Ventari had not worn the Dazbel family crest on his cloak. He had stolen the attire of a palace servant to secretly visit the queen.

This was no time to greet a childhood friend so casually. Reyna asked with a tense expression.

“What news do you bring?”

“…Your Majesty.”

The faint smile on Ventari’s lips slowly twisted, and Reyna’s eyes wavered with anxiety at his unusual reaction.

“Is Father very angry? He will not help me? But really, no more…”

Ventari shook his head quickly, indicating that was not the case, yet he could not speak and his eyes trembled. Karla, sensing something ominous, instinctively pressed close to Reyna and held her hand.

Ventari finally stepped closer with determination, lowering his voice.

“Your Majesty, you must leave with me immediately.”

“…What? What do you mean?”

“A storm of blood will soon blow through the castle. You must avoid it.”

Karla covered her mouth in shock. Reyna could not react. Ventari’s words were too difficult to understand at once.

“Suddenly… What are you talking about?”

“The Duke intends to change the king.”

“Change the king? That….”

It was impossible to believe.

Reyna could not continue her words. She had no idea what was happening. The only certainty was that events were unfolding completely against her wishes.

Just like five years ago.

“…There must be some misunderstanding. I only wanted to return to Kaldirac. Why such frightening….”

“The Duke wishes for a new king. Regardless of the queen’s letters, this has been prepared since last winter.”

She had been completely unaware.

Reyna was left speechless. Ventari, growing more anxious, grabbed her wrist.

“You must abandon the king. Otherwise, the Duke will even kill you.”

No, that cannot be. But the words would not form, and Reyna just shook her head with a twisted expression.

Ventari gripped her hand harder and spoke with even greater urgency.

“There is no time, Your Majesty. Outside the castle, the young duke waits.”

“…Diegor?”

“He will not wait long.”

“Wait a moment…”

“Your Majesty, it has already begun.”

“Stop.”

“If the king is not killed, the Dazbel family will die.”

Please, stop.

Reyna, forgetting to breathe, stared blankly into the void.

“You must kill the king. And Your Majesty will become the consort of the new king. Only then will you survive.”

She could not accept the reality. She had thought she could return to the Crimson Citadel soon. What was this happening?

It was Karla’s voice that grounded her.

“Your Majesty…”

Her trembling, frightened voice drew Reyna’s attention. Karla clutched her swelling belly, pale and scared.

Seeing her, Reyna immediately understood what she had to do.

“…Ventari, help Karla.”

In the dead of night, the queen left the palace with her beloved handmaid.
