May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 19.2
Reyna lost her words once again, and Priscilla nodded as if to say it was all right.
“I understand. If Lucian had not been in my womb, I would not have survived either. The world can be cruel, and sometimes you need something to hold onto.”
She exposed the guilt Reyna had struggled so hard to suppress with astonishing ease.
Reyna’s face, twisted with anger, went pale. Her green eyes, which had glared at Priscilla as if she would kill her, now trembled uncertainly.
“…No. That is not it. I just… I just wanted to save Karla… Karla alone…”
For a moment, Priscilla remained silent, then suddenly frowned.
“You make such a pitiful expression that I feel like a truly bad person.”
She stared at Reyna with a complicated expression and spoke again.
“Queen… I think you really do not know what you have shattered.”
Priscilla suddenly reached out her hand. Her fingertip stopped near one of Reyna’s cheeks, trembling faintly.
Tears had already filled Reyna’s eyes as she stared at Priscilla.
Priscilla muttered suddenly.
“I am so disgusted by your innocence… I cannot tolerate it.”
Reyna blinked. The tears pressed against her eyelids and fell heavily. Priscilla frowned slightly and let out a small, almost amused laugh.
“Queen.”
“…….”
“You are… more than you think.”
“…….”
“Much crueler and more terrible than you realize.”
It was as if she were urging Reyna to finally understand.
After a brief silence, Reyna, frozen like a statue, muttered softly.
“You want me dead.”
Priscilla did not deny it.
“That is why you killed Karla.”
After another long silence, she spoke again, denying it this time.
“…If thinking that way makes you feel better, then so be it.”
A white-hot fury surged through Reyna’s mind.
She clenched her fists and bit her trembling lips until they bled as she asked.
“If I lose Karla too… did you think I would end my own life?”
Priscilla smiled brightly, deliberately provocative, and asked in return.
“Well? How does that make you feel?”
Reyna knew Priscilla was deliberately trying to provoke her.
Her intentions were clear.
“…Even if I die, I will kill you first.”
Still, Reyna lunged at Priscilla without hesitation.
Priscilla did not evade her.
Reyna mounted Priscilla’s body and grabbed her slender neck. Some inexplicable strength surged through her; it felt as if she could snap it at any moment.
Even under the pale moonlight, Priscilla’s face flushed as if blood flowed backward, and the veins on her forehead and temples bulged.
Yet Priscilla only tilted her head slightly backward, without struggling.
Her trembling lips curved into a faint smile. Her hazel eyes, wobbling precariously, looked almost expectant, and her crimson face seemed peaceful, as if on the brink of rest.
Reyna contorted her face with rage, squeezing Priscilla’s neck even tighter.
“…Die. Just die!”
In that moment, nothing else mattered. Even if this was a trap set by Priscilla, it did not matter. Reyna could see nothing and hear nothing.
“Reyna!”
She did not hear Elizer’s shocked voice calling her, nor the clinking of the guards’ armor.
“Die!”
Priscilla’s eyes briefly lost focus, blurred.
“Ah!”
Elizer grabbed Reyna’s hands, which were clutching Priscilla’s neck, with tremendous force. Reyna’s arms were twisted, and she tumbled off Priscilla’s body.
Her arms ached as if they were broken, yet she struggled like a madwoman to attack Priscilla again.
Elizer, reacting quickly, let go of her twisted arms and wrapped his body around her to hold her back.
Meanwhile, his knight picked up the fallen Priscilla.
Priscilla was alive.
“Let go!”
Reyna struck, scratched, and screamed to free herself from Elizer’s hold.
He did not release her at all.
Finally, Reyna broke down crying, and her struggles gradually lost strength.
Eventually, consumed by the terror of being completely alone in the world, she could make no sound at all.
