Lyman lowered his gaze quietly as if he had seen nothing.

Eventually, the bedroom door closed behind Elizer and Reyna.

Elizer gently laid Reyna on the bed.

Reyna blinked vacantly, her body completely limp. She did not even have the energy to be startled at his sudden appearance.

Noticing that Reyna had regained some composure, Elizer warned in a tired voice,

“If you kill Priscilla, I will no longer be able to help you. Unless you want to be executed immediately…”

Would a warning like that make her hesitate or back down? Reyna let out a small, involuntary laugh.

“I do not care.”

“……”

“If I can kill Priscilla, then I would be willing to die.”

Reyna turned her head slightly to look at Elizer. He furrowed his brow, his patience evidently thinning.

“…You have forgotten, Reyna. You cannot die as you wish.”

Ah, and it seemed his vengeance was still not over. Reyna closed her eyes in exhaustion and frustration.

Then Elizer called her again.

“Reyna.”

Reyna did not respond. Silence continued for a moment.

“…No one can kill Priscilla.”

Reyna opened her eyes at his quiet murmur. She repeated his words in her mind several times before asking absentmindedly,

“Why?”

“Because I will not allow it.”

As if following a rule established long ago, he answered immediately.

“……”

At that moment, Reyna was overwhelmed by a strange feeling.

Even in this state, her heart still held love for him.

Yet that love depended on only a few fleeting moments.

The brief encounter under the king’s protection, the instant he had removed his helmet and recognized her under the dazzling sun, and a few other moments even shorter than those.

Those short moments had been too intense and precious to her. On the best of days, the sunlight between the clouds represented those moments.

Thus, even in this condition, Reyna could still love him. That love left a lingering attachment to life.

“Because I will not allow it.”

It was not a surprising answer. Reyna had expected him to say that. Yet for some reason at that moment…

She could not remember how he had smiled under the brilliant sun.

She felt as if she had lost everything.

Life felt distant and vague, as if all her senses had been severed.

“Then… then, Elizer.”

Reyna desperately wished to die.

“Just kill me.”

Rumors spread throughout the royal city of Elmaril that the queen had gone mad.

Whispers began circulating that she had never conceived, and that she had survived only by lying that the cunning Leonar’s daughter had dared to bear the king’s seed.

Voices demanding her immediate execution echoed over the castle walls and reached the queen’s residence.

Elizer remained silent.

Reyna was also quiet. She no longer begged her subordinates to spare lives, nor did she riot with threats of killing Priscilla. She simply shut herself away in her room.

Finally, nobles from long-established families came to Elmaril and knelt before the king.

“You must depose the queen and behead her to avenge the royal family.”

After the nobles’ audience concluded, Elizer wiped his weary expression quietly.

It seemed as if the whole world wished for her death. If she did not die, this uproar would never end. Yet, for reasons unknown, Elizer did not kill Reyna.

Then an incident finally occurred.

A pale-faced servant rushed into the king’s study, exclaiming,

“Your Majesty, the queen’s residence… an assassin has entered the queen’s residence.”

And that Reyna was bleeding.

It was difficult to comprehend.

“…What was Lyman doing?”

Lyman, the king’s knight, had always been by Reyna’s side.

A troubled expression crossed the servant’s face.

“…It seems the queen approached the assassin herself…”

“What…?”

“Sir Lyman was also injured.”

“……”

Elizer frowned slightly at the confusing news.

Suddenly, he recalled what she had muttered absentmindedly not long ago.

“Just kill me.”

A bad premonition settled over him.
