Elizer realized that the distance was closer than he had thought. Their gazes immediately intertwined, and she did not look away.

In her transparent green eyes, which deepened in color toward the edges, he thought he could see his own foolish face reflected.

‘Ah, what should I do?’

His mind went blank for a moment. Despite having told her to be quiet, Elizer could not suppress his awkwardness and inadvertently laughed.

She parted her lips slightly, startled.

Then, surprisingly—perhaps only his imagination—but in the next moment, her face flushed bright red.

Elizer froze at the unexpected reaction.

“……”

A brief silence passed, during which a heartbeat, belonging to no one he could tell, sounded far too loud.

It was probably his own.

Completely flustered, Elizer quickly averted his gaze and turned his head.

‘Why is she looking at me like that?’

His heart thumped uncontrollably. Elizer tried to calm his rapid breathing and unconsciously swallowed hard.

Meanwhile, the voices of the guards who had approached earlier receded.

Once again, only the sounds of insects and the distant noise of the feast drifting on the wind remained, restoring a quiet calm.

And the woman seemed completely unashamed. He could feel her bold gaze inspecting him from every angle as it brushed along the side of his face.

Elizer felt a strange sense of danger he could not explain.

“She’s gone, I think.”

Unexpectedly, she leaned forward and whispered, taking a deep breath.

Elizer was startled once by the scent of her body and again by the warm breath brushing against his ear.

He had never spoken to an unfamiliar woman before and had never shown such timid awkwardness. It was no wonder he reacted so suddenly.

“…Ah.”

Elizer, belatedly covering his burning ear, looked at her in disbelief.

‘Who is this girl? Does she know who I am to be so fearless…’

As he thought this, she suddenly smiled.

“……”

Even under the moonlight, her smile was dazzling like the midday sun.

Elizer could no longer continue his thoughts. He had no idea what expression he was making. The tickling sensation spreading from his chest throughout his body became unbearable.

He jumped up and reached his hand toward her.

Even in that brief moment, his mind was filled with thousands of worries about whether it was right to escort her like this.

She, as if waiting for him, grabbed his hand firmly.

Elizer flinched reflexively.

She laughed again.

“Ha ha…”

Her laughter was clear and bell-like. Despite feeling embarrassed and flustered, Elizer found it pleasant.

Habitually scanning their surroundings, he nevertheless followed her lead, laughing foolishly and whispering.

“Quiet…”

She nodded quickly like a well-behaved child. It did not feel entirely reassuring.

A smile remained clearly on her lips. She seemed like a mischievous young lady, perhaps even more so than Maria.

Elizer led the way.

He could feel her staying close behind him.

Rustle, rustle. He listened to the sounds she made, occasionally turning impulsively to look back.

Amazingly, she looked up at him as if she had been waiting, smiling. At first, he thought he had imagined it and quickly looked forward again.

Then, realizing it could not be a mistake, he turned back, startled by her smile, and looked forward once more.

Before he knew it, they had quickly exited the rear garden.

Elizer stopped under the shadow of a wall. After taking a deep breath and turning around, he saw her waiting, looking up at him with large, expectant eyes.

He forgot what he intended to say.

“You must not come here.”

Of ten things he might have said, only one came out, and she nodded obediently as if she were a well-behaved child, blinking her large eyes as if waiting for the next words.

His lips curled into a smile against his will. Thinking it might look strange, he pursed them.

Elizer knew he did not have much time. He also felt that he did not want this moment to end.

Before he realized it, he asked.

“Who are you here to see?”

He had not forgotten his own position.

“Well, um… What is your name?”
