May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 3.2
Karla could not hide her shock. She glanced once at Reyna’s expression, then leaned her head out of the carriage. She froze.
“Y, Your Highness…”
The royal knights, their blue cloaks billowing, were standing guard before the inner castle gate.
“Why…”
Reyna could not understand why Elizer’s knights were blocking her path.
They did not seem willing to step aside.
Reyna eventually stepped out of the carriage herself. The knights all went down on one knee and showed her their respects.
One face stood out among them. It was the man who always stood behind Elizer, the knight who had supported her when she collapsed before the king last time.
His name was probably…
“Sir Lyman, have I already been removed from my position?”
She asked if that was why they dared to block her path. The king’s knight, Lyman, only bowed his head deeply as if apologizing.
“To dare block my way, have you all gone mad…”
Reyna grew anxious at once and muttered irritably.
“You cannot leave the palace without His Majesty’s permission.”
“…What?”
The king had barred her from leaving. Reyna was bewildered.
‘He should want me gone more than anyone. Why would he…’
For a queen of the Dazbel family to disappear from sight should have been the thing he desired most.
‘He would not blink even if I dropped dead, so why…’
She had no idea what he was thinking. Truthfully, ever since their wedding night, she had never been able to understand what went on in his head.
It could not possibly be for a good reason.
“Return to your chamber.”
“Step aside.”
Reyna, unable to hide her impatience, pushed Lyman. Yet he did not move even slightly.
And Reyna, now severely weakened, had neither the strength nor the spirit to scream and make a scene.
“I will escort you back to your room.”
“……”
Reyna had no choice but to turn the carriage around.
The king’s knights surrounded it. They escorted the queen all the way to her room and stayed until she stepped inside.
Karla pressed her ear tightly against the door, trying to sense what was happening outside. Reyna asked stiffly,
“Are they gone?”
Karla shook her head with a tearful expression.
For some reason, the king’s knights did not leave the queen’s bedchamber. The door was not locked from the outside, but the situation resembled imprisonment.
Something was going terribly wrong. Reyna’s complexion turned pale.
She even tried demanding answers from the knights standing guard at her door, but they remained terrifyingly silent.
And before long, he came.
The queen had always gone to him, so this was the first time the king came to her chamber. Yet neither the queen nor her maids had the time to recognize how extraordinary that was.
“……”
Reyna held her breath as she looked at Elizer. As always, his expression revealed nothing.
His cool blue eyes swept over her, noting that she still had not removed her cloak. After an uncomfortable silence, he abruptly ordered,
“Everyone leave.”
Reyna’s eyes trembled.
“Y, Your Highness.”
Her maids could not endure long. In an instant, only the two of them remained inside the bedchamber. Elizer again fell silent for a moment.
Unable to withstand the oppressive aura radiating from him, Reyna unconsciously stepped back.
He let out a short breath, then closed the distance in one stride with his long legs.
“You always get what you want in this manner.”
Reyna’s eyes widened in shock.
“What…”
“Your father may have accepted it, but I do not.”
He looked emotionless as usual, yet he was unmistakably angry.
It had been so long since Elizer reacted to anything, even in anger, that Reyna found herself staring blankly at him for a moment.
“Do you think that by doing this, I will send Priscilla away from the palace?”
At once Reyna realized he had misunderstood something.
“That is not, that is not what this is about. I simply do not want to stay here any longer.”
“……”
“I cannot do this anymore.”
After a brief silence, Elizer suddenly let out a faint laugh.
“Is this Leonard’s idea?”
At the sudden mention of her father’s name, Reyna lost her words for an instant. The king seemed convinced she had another agenda.
It was not unreasonable for him to think so. In the past, she had used the prestige of her family to threaten the king in hopes of gaining his attention. Those days were long gone, but still…
“Answer me, Reyna. Did the Duke tell you to do this?”
Perhaps this was her punishment for those actions.
“It is not his style. If I truly remove you from your position, what then?”
At his cold mockery, Reyna took a small breath and answered,
“Father does not know. He would never allow me to give up my position.”
“……”
“I, I want to return to Kaldirac.”
