May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 30.2
Elizer felt a certain instinct and his legs moved first. His heart quickened with an indescribable emotion. It felt almost like anticipation.
Finally, the layers of bushes that had blocked his view cleared, and Elizer’s steps slowed to a halt.
Bright moonlight illuminated a small ivory-colored balcony. And on that balcony railing stood her—Reyna.
“Ah…”
Elizer was engulfed by a strange feeling. Perhaps it was fate that he would somehow meet her like this.
At least in that moment, he could not doubt that it was all a coincidence.
Reyna, as if to show that she was still a young lady, heaved her chest, tilted her head back, and wept so sorrowfully it was almost heart-wrenching.
Elizer felt a painful tightness in his chest. Unconsciously, he took a few steps forward, then suddenly snapped back to his senses and hid again in the shadows.
Rustle.
He had revealed his presence, but Reyna, lost in her crying, seemed unaware.
“……”
Elizer had miraculously found her, yet he was frustrated at being unable to approach, and the fact that she would not stop crying made him anxious.
His eyebrows twisted in shadow, reflecting his helplessness.
Then, as suddenly as she had been crying, Reyna stopped her tears. She looked around abruptly, her head turning as if searching for something.
‘What is she doing…?’
Elizer, fearing she might have sensed him, lowered himself further and held his breath.
“……”
The silence felt ominous. When he cautiously raised his head again…
“…What.”
Unbelievably, Reyna was in a dangerously precarious position, fearlessly climbing over the balcony railing.
The balcony was at least one story above the ground. Even so, anyone untrained would risk serious injury if they fell.
‘No.’
Elizer shouted inwardly and instinctively sprang forward.
Meanwhile, Reyna managed to roll her body over and stand on the outside of the railing. However, her feet wobbled wildly, as if unsure where to step next.
“…No.”
Sensing a terrible premonition, Elizer leapt almost reflexively.
“Ah!”
Reyna let out a short scream as she misstepped.
Elizer desperately reached out, barely catching her before she could fall.
But he lost his balance from the momentum, instinctively wrapping his body around hers. They rolled a couple of times across the thick undergrowth.
Even after the impact ceased, Elizer could not immediately regain his composure. The danger felt far from over, so he held her even tighter, panting heavily.
Reyna, still startled, buried her face in his chest and did not move.
After some time, she began to squirm slightly, sensing something was off.
“…Diegor? O-older brother? Ouch, my….”
Only then did Elizer realize that his arms, holding her head and waist, had been gripping with ridiculous force.
“…Ah.”
He quickly loosened his hold.
“Die…”
Reyna lifted her furrowed face and froze upon meeting an unexpected expression.
And for the first time, Elizer, who had sworn never to reveal himself, was even more flustered than she was.
“…That is…”
He opened his mouth, feeling the need to explain, but the words stuck. Truthfully, he did not even know exactly why he was there or what he had been thinking.
Meanwhile, Reyna, quietly lifting her upper body, began staring straight at him, who was pinned beneath her, unsure what to do.
Elizer felt his mind go completely blank and closed his mouth tight.
Then, unexpectedly, Reyna poked one of his cheeks.
Startled by the sudden touch, Elizer blinked rapidly. Reyna, seeing his natural reaction, finally let out a small laugh.
“Oh my…”
Her characteristic clear laughter, the gentle scent carried in her curly hair that framed his vision like curtains, and the bright smile that spread across her face, whiter than the moon, overwhelmed him.
Elizer realized all over again that he was standing before her, and he felt his face flush intensely.
