May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 31.2
It was the moment Elizer could no longer endure his embarrassment and tried to avoid her gaze.
Reyna suddenly grabbed both of his cheeks. Flustered, Elizer forgot that he had been trying to look away.
“What….”
She spoke urgently to him.
“I mean, I was so happy because I thought you were my fiancé. I only waited for the day we would meet again, the day of the jousting tournament. And when I realized who you really were…”
She paused for a moment, as if out of breath.
In the brief silence, Elizer felt immense tension and unconsciously held his breath. Her blue eyes, holding him, could not hide the wild hope within.
“Your Highness, I…”
Reyna, as if sensing something good, smiled softly again and spoke clearly in a calmer voice.
“My feelings have not changed. It did not matter who you were. I was simply happy to see you again.”
His blue eyes wavered helplessly. From there, warmth spread through his entire body, and his heart raced like never before. It was a feeling he had never experienced. He did not know what to do.
But surprisingly, that was not the end.
“Diegor, my older brother thinks I gave you the handkerchief on a whim, half as a joke, but that was neither a joke nor a mistake. Yes, I probably fell in love with you at first sight.”
Confident, she showed neither embarrassment nor hesitation.
“I like you, Your Highness.”
…No wonder she always seemed dazzling to him.
Even when she wore a white head covering, even when dressed elegantly, even in this completely disheveled state, she always shone brightly.
Elizer began to understand why he could not help but look at her, why he was entirely shaken.
Who could remain unmoved by her?
“Ha ha….”
Elizer, not knowing what to do, looked at her and eventually laughed with a flushed face.
Reyna stared at his smile blankly for a moment. Then, unconsciously following his expression, she laughed too and, as if in a trance, tilted her head toward him.
Elizer’s eyes widened.
She seemed to flinch slightly, but she did not stop. Her movements were very slow and careful.
Elizer could have stopped her. He could have pushed her hand away or turned his head.
But he did not. He just watched as her lips came close.
Reyna slowly lowered her eyelids. Her long eyelashes rested on her pale cheeks.
In the next moment, her lips pressed firmly against his.
It was unbelievably soft and unbearably ticklish.
‘…Ah.’
Elizer’s lips trembled like a fool.
The tremor spread under his skin throughout his body and stirred desires he had hidden inside.
Though clumsy, he instinctively knew what to do next.
He unconsciously reached out, supporting her slender nape, tilted his head, and parted his lips. When he glanced up, he saw her eyes widen in surprise, and he froze.
Their hot breaths mingled, and every time her shivering body moved, his upper lip brushed against hers.
“……”
“……”
Elizer’s Adam’s apple moved up and down noticeably.
“Miss?”
A voice called from above, searching for Reyna.
Ah.
Only then did Elizer miraculously remember who he was and who she was. His mind cleared.
A commotion had started in the tower, searching for her.
He removed his hand from her nape and stepped back. The green eyes watching him trembled in confusion.
Elizer awkwardly straightened up, deliberately avoiding her questioning gaze as if asking why.
Sensing a bad premonition, Reyna rose to follow him, reaching out as if to hold his arm.
“Your Highness, wait a moment…”
But Elizer turned his back to her faster than she could reach him.
Reyna whispered to him urgently.
“Take me with you too, please.”
Elizer, who seemed about to leave, paused. Reyna felt a small spark of hope.
“…You are the daughter of Leonard Dazbel, and I am Prince Cassian’s knight.”
Reyna’s hand froze in midair. Elizer’s heart sank at the words. Yet he did not turn back to comfort her.
He disappeared into the darkness as if fleeing.
The encounter had been very brief. That was all.
