“Your Majesty?”

He did not answer. The arms wrapped around her back and shoulders seemed to tighten their hold slightly more. Reyna was not sure if it was just her imagination, but it felt as if he was trembling with fear.

It was at the moment Reyna tried to lift her head in bewilderment.

“…Reyna.”

A trembling voice drifted down from above her head.

“…Do you truly remember nothing at all?”

Reyna faltered at the sound of his breathy, whispered voice.

“I….”

Reyna wanted to remember him, but there was nothing in her mind.

That fact suddenly made her feel incredibly sad. She was frustrated with herself and felt sorry for him. Without realizing it, she rubbed her forehead against his shoulder and whispered mournfully.

“I am sorry.”

She felt him slowly shake his head in response. It seemed as though his stiff, frozen muscles relaxed just a little.

Reyna slowly closed her eyes again, feeling him calm down.

The large, solid body surrounding her, the hot body temperature, and the sound of a thumping heart. The scent of sweat and the faint aroma of musk drifting from his body felt both foreign and familiar. It seemed Allin’s words about him staying by her side all day while she hovered between life and death were certainly not a lie.

Reyna, who was falling helplessly into sleep, suddenly opened her eyes. She feared that if she fell asleep like this, he would be gone when she woke in the morning. If that happened, she might not see him for a long time again.

The thought made her feel suddenly gloomy.

Reyna moved her limp arms and wrapped them around his waist. In truth, she had no strength at all, so it was closer to resting her arms on his waist than truly embracing him.

He had been as still as if he were asleep, but then he flinched.

Before long, the strength in the arms that had been holding her shoulders and waist began to slide away, and his embrace grew distant like a lie. A large hand supported her head and back. Her upper body was slowly lowered backward until her back gently touched the soft bedding.

He was trying to leave.

‘Suddenly, why?’

Reyna could not believe it and lifted her hazy gaze.

The light from the glass lamp dimly illuminated the bed and its surroundings. His face was half submerged in shadow, and because the light flickered occasionally, there was no way to know what he was thinking.

Nevertheless, a powerful impulse surged within her to hold onto him.

He was her King and her husband. According to her guess, he was perhaps afraid that the Queen, his wife, would die.

Reyna only felt free from anxiety and able to breathe properly when he was there. She needed him desperately.

Therefore, before the King could distance himself completely from her, she suddenly grabbed his shoulder and spoke.

“Just a little, please stay by my side just a little longer.”

He froze in the middle of laying her down on the bed as if surprised.

Reyna looked anxiously at his lips, which showed no sign of moving, and in her urgency, she began to pour out any words she could find.

“To tell you the truth, I had a nightmare. It was so scary that I simply cannot be alone…. Even for a brief moment is fine, so could you not stay by my side just a little longer?”

He remained silent for a long time as if lost in thought. Reyna stared at him intently, waiting for his answer.

Eventually, the arms supporting her back and head disappeared, and her weak body fell helplessly onto the soft bedding. It was the moment Reyna contorted her face in sorrow, certain of his rejection.

He, who she thought was going to leave just like that, sank down onto the floor and quietly rested his arms and head against the edge of the bed.

Reyna’s eyes widened at the unexpected action.

“Your Majesty, why….”

She looked at him, not knowing what to do out of a sense of being apologetic, but he only lowered his eyelids without saying a word.

“…….”

Reyna, forced to fall silent, stole secret glances at him.

He blinked occasionally as if sleep would not come. The orange light now rested dimly on the face that had been half buried in shadow earlier. It was not clear, but it was enough to recognize his features.

‘Come to think of it….’

Is this not the first time I am seeing his face properly like this?
