Elizer’s eyes began to tremble with anxiety. Unable to endure even that brief moment, he tried to step forward, but Reyna stopped him once more.

“Please wait a moment.”

At the faintly incredulous smile spreading across her lips, Elizer seemed to calm down a little.

“Reyna…”

Still, as if his unease hadn’t fully faded, he called her in a restless voice.

Reyna gazed at the man who looked at her as though he didn’t know what to do, and slowly pushed herself up.

The anxiety in his eyes shifted into surprise, and the smile on her lips deepened.

As she moved a little more, a sharp pain shot through her right leg, just as expected. But at that moment, the pain hardly mattered.

“Reyna, how…?”

“The scholar said it’s fine for me to stand for a short while now.”

As if entranced, Elizer began to move again.

For some reason, Reyna felt impatient. A baseless confidence welled up inside her, as if she might even be able to walk.

And so, as though to meet him halfway, she took a step forward without thinking. But the moment she tried to shift her weight onto her right leg out of habit, a shocking pain struck her, and she helplessly lost her balance.

Ah, no…

She didn’t even have time to scream. All she could do was squeeze her eyes shut reflexively. She thought she might fall and break her leg again.

“Reyna.”

But before Reyna could collapse to the floor like a fawn, Elizer caught her by the waist.

It was as fast as lightning. His hot, firm arm wrapped around her waist and back.

At that moment, her heart dropped heavily before leaping again, and her lips parted on their own.

“…Ah.”

A weak cry escaped her belatedly.

Her ragged breathing and pounding heartbeat rang painfully in her ears. She couldn’t regain her senses right away. It took a few more seconds before she fully understood what had happened.

The solid sensation pressing against her cheek felt unfamiliar yet oddly familiar, and Reyna blinked blankly.

Then his arms tightened around her waist and back.

Their bodies pressed together without even the slightest gap. His unsteady, heated breath seemed to spill against her ear.

Thump. Thump. The sound filling her world—it was his. Strong, suffocating, and hot.

Trapped completely in his embrace, Reyna awkwardly darted her eyes around. It was hard to believe that the same man who used to act as if he would die from even the slightest touch was now holding her so tightly.

His breath, his heartbeat, his warmth, his scent, his trembling—she could feel him all too clearly.

Whenever his large hand brushed along her spine, an unfamiliar shiver rose from the base of her tailbone, making her lower abdomen twitch. It was a strange sensation she had never experienced before. It was so strange that she instinctively twisted her body and hurriedly called out to him.

“Your Majesty.”

She could clearly feel his previously still muscles flinch, and for a moment, she couldn’t say anything more. As if waiting for her, Elizer remained silent.

Finally regaining her composure, Reyna whispered,

“I’m alright.”

It felt like a long time before he spoke—perhaps ten seconds, or maybe ten minutes.

“Your leg…”

Worried that she might have frightened him too much, Reyna quickly answered,

“It’s fine. The scholar said it’s really okay for me to stand briefly now. Trying to walk—that was my mistake. I thought I could… I’m sorry. Did I scare you a lot?”

She focused all her attention on him.

Elizer seemed to take a small, steadying breath before slowly shaking his head. His lips brushed past her ear.

At that, that strange, ticklish feeling returned once more. Sensing something oddly dangerous, Reyna shifted her body again.

“Your Majesty, but your arm… just a little… it hurts.”

“…Ah.”

The arms that had been constricting her so tightly loosened at once.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, Reyna.”

As she could finally breathe again, it felt like her body was free—but for some reason, a sense of disappointment and emptiness crept in. As she struggled to understand her own feelings, his low voice sounded above her head.

“Just a moment…”

Right after that, her body suddenly lifted into the air. Instinctively, Reyna reached out and wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

Their eyes met. He was closer than she had expected, and it caught her off guard. She blinked rapidly.

There was something in the firm set of his lips that made it feel like something was about to happen. Reyna held her breath, unable to look away from him.

…Ah. At times like this, am I supposed to close my eyes?
